http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2009/02/hilary-duff-fay.html Whose side are you on in the Hilary Duff and Faye Dunaway battle of insults? (I refuse to call it a "catfight.") As you know, Duff is set to star in an adaptation, not a remake, of Bonnie and Clyde, the 1967 film that earned Dunaway an Oscar nomination. Upon hearing of Duff's casting, Dunaway reportedly said, "Couldn't they at least cast a real actress?" Interviewed by E!'s Daily 10 while filming a guest appearance on CBS' Ghost Whisperer (ouch!), Dufff responded with this: "I think that my fans that are gonna go see the movie don't even know who she is.... I think it was a little unnecessary, but I might be mad if I looked like that now, too." On the one hand, you should never diss another actress, let alone an Oscar winner. On the other, Dunaway did allegedly start it... and she appeared in a 2004 Sci Fi Channel movie called Anonymous Rex. |

I'm with Faye - who on earth does Muff think she is? She has the nerve to refer to 'my fans'. What a delusional, talentless little cunt. I bet Faye wouldn't even need wire hangers to beat that little slut. |

I'm no fan of Hilary Duff, but Dunaway started it by being a hurtful bitch, no? |

True but Bonnie & Clyde is a classic and Faye is a very good actress. Hilary Duff is famous for being a children's tv star - like Miley Cyrus. It's sort of like Mariah Carey thinking she's able to beat Mozart. |

Yeah but you can't expect Duff to turn down a great role like that really. |

She hasn't even seen the movie, obviously, so perhaps she should pass judgment when the movie is out instead of being a bitch already. |

Well this is it. It was an uncessarily bitchy comment. Even if Duff is utterly shit in the role, what's it to Dunaway anyway? It doesn't take away from her own performance. |

Faye's right, Duff is talentless little cunt and lol at Dufff's response ... The truth really hurts and of course your fans don't know who Faye is, their favorite movies are probably High School Musical 1-3 |

Yeah, but equally you can't expect Dunaway to be happy that her signature role is being reprised by one of the least talented and pointless "celebs" going. It's like asking Madonna to be happy that Paris Hilton is doing a cover of "Like a Prayer". There ARE standards. Dunaway told it like it is. I admire her for it. |

Hmm, I dunno. I think it sort of implies that the person feels threatened or something. So what if someone else was to sing "Like A Prayer"? Would that take from the original in any way? Nope. If anything, it would just make it seem even *better*. Similarly with this role. Dunaway's performance in "Bonnie & Clyde" has been recorded on film for posterity. Nothing will ever tarnish that or take from it, so I fail to see why she has her knickers in a knot just because some little bint has been asked to play the same role. It's also just plan rude and hurtful to talk about someone like that. It's not really for her to say who's an actor and who isn't. It's just bad manners. |

I don't agree with a word of that. I think for someone to make a b-grade cash-in of an iconic movie represents far more ill manners than anything Dunaway said. It shows it's about the making money, pure and simple. And if they're casting Duff in the role then that's exactly what it's about. Faye Dunaway has a reputation for being outspoken. She was asked what she thought, and she said what she thought. She doesn't consider Duff to be an actress, so why should she lie about it? Dunaway doesn't owe Duff anything - it's the other way around, for Duff will be riding on Dunaway's success. I don't think Dunaway feels threatened at all - it's not like she would ever be in the running for the role - just annoyed that a classic movie is reduced to popcorn fodder to sell a few tickets to airhead multiplex brats. As for the "Like a Prayer" comparison, one of the reasons you said you felt let down by the Sticky and Sweet Tour was because of the tacky version of that very track. So you recognise that there is such a thing as cheapening a classic. At least with Madonna it was her song, so she can argue that she can do what she wants with it. But I think when someone takes something you built ... to churn something out on the back of it ... I would annoyed too. Incidentally, why isn't it for her to decide who is or isn't an actress? If an Oscar winner who has had a 30 year career can't have an opinion, then I'm at a loss to say who is? |

I don't really agree with any of that either, especially the Like A Prayer thing. Yes, I detest the naff S&S version of it, but it hasn't "cheapened" the original for me in any way shape or form. Why? Because the original version is still there. Intact. Forever. I never understand why people moan about remakes "ruining" a film or song. They don't. The originals are still there, as wonderful as they ever were. Faye Dunaway played that role to great acclaim. So what? Does that give her the right to say who should play the part forever more? Nope. She was being a bitch. It's what she does. I don't hate her for it or anything, but I still think she was being a bitch. And this is coming from someone who has zero respect or admiration for Hilary Duff. |

Yes, the originals are there but there is such a thing as caring that their integrity is preserved. In Dunaway's case that is what is probably getting up her goat. It's still a great story and could still be a great film - but casting Duff is a clear signal about the film makers' intentions. And I don't think she was being a bitch at all, nor did she say she should veto who should play the role. She was merely being honest about her opinion, and I'd much rather have that than the PR-managed response that is so much the norm in celeb-land these days. |
