Sophie Ellis-Bextor has revealed that her new album is called "Make A Scene". She described the title - taken from the chorus lyrics to one of the album's songs - as a reference to "being comfortable in your own skin". "Especially now that I'm doing my fourth record, I feel like I know what it is that I do. I'm not trying to conform to anyone else's idea of what I should be up to," she told Digital Spy backstage at the Elle Style Awards. Ellis-Bextor described the record - which features collaborations with producers including Calvin Harris, Richard X, Metronomy's Joe Mount, former Sneaker Pimps star Liam Howe and Dutch DJ Armin van Buuren - as her "danciest yet". She also revealed that the 12-track album is "all done and dusted" and will be released in the autumn. It will be preceded by the single 'Bittersweet', which is expected to receive its radio premiere within the next fortnight. "It's another song I did with the Freemasons. It's very pop-dance," she said. "I think the chorus sounds a little bit like it's from a musical - it's quite sort of dramatic and melodic, and a bit meandering in a good way." Sophie Ellis-Bextor has released four albums since making her debut as a solo artist in 2001. Her last LP, Trip The Light Fantastic, debuted and peaked at number 7 on the UK albums chart in May 2007. |

i've always been fond of sophie, even though she lacks the x factor that could propel her to first class kylieness. based on the info revealed, her new album should sound like yet another pleasing pop exercise, but i feel a bunch of just good tunes just ain't enough to make it a proper hit - hopefully i'm mistaken. the namedropping of collaborators is impressive, though. |

The synth hook is very "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" but I have a feeling it has been lifted wholesale from something else. The chorus is almost identical to her own "Catch You". From this mix, it sounds like it going to be very pleasing and enjoyable (just like the album will probably be), but it'll be another two weeks in the top 40 then never seen again commercial "success". |

yes, it's probably gonna be a moderate success at best, but still sounds better than most generic pop hits of today. |

This thread has been on my mind..... I have Today The Sun's On Us playing..... the whole Trip The Light Fantastic seems to have sucked into it so many memories of the times (eg living with Lee and the boiling hot summer) - I like that But I really did used to listen to the album all the time. It's good! |

Here's the actual single version of the song. It's such a bland song. Like album filler or something. |

I can never understand why she signs off such half-arsed productions of her songs. They're obviously conceived as disco stompers but they come out so polite sounding. She should have taken one listen to the Freemasons mix of this and realised that, while it was as subtle as a swinging brick, it gets the blood pumping in a way this version never will. |

I agree 100%. I really like Sophie, but she's a little infuriating at times and only has herself to blame. How she thought that canging the album title to "Straight To The Heart" was a good idea is also beyond me. |

The video for "Bittersweet"! Suits the song perfectly: pleasant but ultimately banal. |
