hi

hope your all well?! i want to reasure you (without divulging too much at this point). our time with EMI came to it's contractual end, Will and i will be doing a 'best of' album, we are very happy to do this and see it as a great thing for 'goldfrapp'. we are also very excited about the future of 'goldfrapp' and we're really looking forward to making our next album, i can't say anything further on the details of that right now, but all is fine and dandy! we cant wait to get stuck in, writing new material for the release of our next album.

love and catch up soon xx alison

Sooo relieved to hear they aren't splitting or anything like that, and I agree with her that a Best Of *is* actually a good thing for them to do next. I hope there'll be a new song on it though!

By the way, is that really Alison's actual text? Does she really not know the difference between your and you're? And why doesn't she capitalise the start of sentences?

I wouldn't take that to mean that she doesn't know the difference between "you're" and "your". I make that (and mistakes like it) all the time when I posting on message boards and other informal mediums, because I don't really pay much attention to what I am typing. It's lazy, I know, but there we have it. If I ever made that kind of mistake in a formal piece of writing, however, I would be mortified!

That said, she also makes the mistake of putting the name of her band in inverted commas, so maybe she is just a thick bitch.

Ah yeah, you're probably right. They're probably just done while she's on the move using some mobile device or other.

So, did their latest album go bust? Didn't really make much impact did it? I think the whole retro thing harmed them. Overplayed.

Goldfrapp Start New Album

Goldfrapp's Will Gregory has told 6 Music that work is beginning on their new album.

Having just wrapped up his debut opera Piccard In Space, Gregory claimed the time was right to start work on the follow up to 2010's Head First.

"I am ready to do it now, to get back to Goldfrapp will be a very refreshing change, " he said.

He continued: "We have, as usual, lots of stuff in the bottom drawer which we rejected the first time round, but I expect we'll want to start a fresh this time round."

The electro duo, which includes Alison Goldfrapp formed in 1999 and are now 5 albums strong. With the music fluttering between the ambient and the euphoric, there are few clues as to how any of the songs will sound with Gregory revealing that "nothing has been planned".

"We have tried sitting down and writing lists and having coffee to talk about it, but usually we just mess about, it's good not to be too conscious about what you do," he said.

And what would you suggest they do? Go and work in Tesco?

They're musicians. Making music is what they do, regardless of how many people buy it or not.

Indeed. And a dip sales is no reason for them to call it a day. They've never been big sellers, even when EMI put a shitload of money behind them, but they've got a decent-sized and loyal following.

"Head First" was only a let-down in comparison to what came before it. It's a still a thoroughly enjoyable pop album. "Alive", in particular, is a belter.

Exactly! If that album had been released by a new act, people would be saying "Wow, they're really ones to watch".

They were never huge sellers, but they still sold well. The last album sold *far* less than their previous efforts, that's why it was seen as such a flop.

People just didn't realize that an alternative act like Goldfrapp weren't going to maintain commercial success. They were arguably never meant to.

Personally I've loved everything they've done thus far, and every album is different from the rest.

Its sad so many M fans (not here, but elsewhere) cannot give them a chance because Alison has said shit about M in the past. I think Goldfrapp actually have been just as good, if not better (since they have no Hard Candy) than Madge has in the past 10 years,

Songs like "Strict Machine," "Ride a White Horse" and "Dreaming" shit on most of Madonna's songs over the last 10 years.

Overall Madonna has been better than any other pop act over the last 10 years, but that's mainly because of the mainstream music industry having no standards anymore and having consistently turned out shit songs and "artists" over the last decade. She wasn't competing with the likes of MJ, Prince, and Janet in the 2000s. She was the only relevant artist of her caliber left.

Overall, mainly because of AL, HC, and the two new songs on Celebration, her work over the last decade doesn't stack up to that of alternative acts like Goldfrapp. Madonna needs to realize she's not going to get hits on Top 40 radio anymore, at least not consistently, and thus should focus on making GOOD MUSIC. It doesn't matter if it's not radio friendly, at this point a Madonna album would sell well if it were excellent and starting getting the buzz and critical reviews to match.

It sounds so simple right?

I never understood the hatred people had for the album. TONS of artists have done the 80's throwback thing, but very few have actually done the "wasn't this on the Flashdance soundtrack?" thing, and I loved it. It was pure 80's cheese and I loved the album.

I thought it was pretty weak compared to their previous albums.
