I finally got around to giving this a proper listen at the weekend - LOVE it. For me, it's their most consistent album, and it's a far fresher sounding album than "X and Y".

"Yes" is the one that is really standing out for me, and I think this is the first Coldplay album that I, at least, enjoyed every song. I was a real Cure/shoe-gazing fan when I were a young(er) lad, and I can hear little flourishes of that kind of sound scattered throughout.

:alexz: I'm still loving it I must say. As you say, there are no duff tracks. Even the ones that aren't my favourites, I still like a lot.

I think when material is brand new and the band is still breaking them in, it's okay if the first few shows are dire. I know U2's last few tours are well-known for the new material not sounding so hot during the early shows. I am sure by the time the tour gets underway, the new material will sound great. I hope they film it this time, surprised they didn't film the X&Y tour since they did for ARUBTTH

Coldplay hold the top spot on the Billboard 200 for the second week in a row.

Coldplay's new album, Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends, is at No. 1 again this week, and has also become the top selling album released this year worldwide (by sales). Total sales stand at 2,763,280.

That puts Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III in at No. 2. The hit album has been on the chart for three weeks, debuting at No. 1. The chart is determined by airplay and sales data.

2 new videos for "Viva La Vida"! About bleedin' time. They're both shit in different ways. Hype Williams certainly isn't what he once was.

Which is the proper one? The colourful, Hype Williams-directed one? I think it looks a bit naff and cheap.

Hype Williams is always like that though...remember the video for Tranet's "Call On Me"? :vomit:

I never ranked Viva because I didn't like it at all when I bought it. But it grew MASSIVELY over the weeks and I love it so much, it might end up in my top 10 of all time. It no doubt is the best Coldplay album to date.

Life in Technicolor | 9/10 | Great intro, nice to start the album with a full force instrumental
Cemeteries of London | 10/10 | My second favourite, great lyrics
Lost! | 9/10 | Very Arcade Fire, which is a good thing.
42 | 7/10 | Least favourite of mine, but like everything on this album still good enough.
Lovers in Japan / Reign of Love | 10/10 | LIJ is a solid track but with ROL as an encore it's perfect.
Yes | 8/10 | I'm just so tired of this loneliness...
Viva La Vida | 9/10 | Very catchy and instant, great lyrics
Violet Hill | 9/10 | Great intro, Brian Eno's influence is all over it. This could've been a Bowie track. Nice percussion
Strawberry Swing | 7/10 | Doesn't do too much for me and doesn't go anywhere but enjoyable.
Death and All His Friends | 10/10 | Absolutely brilliant! The album ends with an big climax. Also, to reprise the intro is perfection.

I never liked any of his videos, specially when he started signing them with huge font at the begging. They all look really dated now

The EP, which is tentatively scheduled to be released in December, will be called 'Prospects March'.

Chris Martin and co are also planning on putting out a new album in December 2009.

Speaking to BBC 6music the singer said: "We're going to put an EP out at Christmas called 'Prospects March' and we're going to release an album next December to end the decade."

Coldplay announce double release

Coldplay have announced plans to release a new EP and album.

Chris Martin said the band are planning two further releases including the full-length follow up to Viva La Vida, by the end of 2009.

He told BBC 6 Music: "We're going to put an EP out at Christmas called Prospects March and we're going to release an album next December to end the decade."

Martin also said that the EP is recorded but they are still to work on their next album.

The singer also joked his band might disappear from the public eye after the release of their fifth LP.

He added: "And then we’re gonna be ‘Whooosh! Where’ve they gone?', just like [The Usual Suspects' mythical film villain] Keyser Soze."

The band will embark on a UK tour later this year visiting London, Manchester and Glasgow.

They are currently offering a free new song, Death Will Never Conquer, available to download from their website.

Coldplay have also been nominated for the best special effects award for Violet Hill at this year's MTV VMA awards.

Russell Brand will host the event which is due to be held at LA's Paramount Pictures Studios on 7 September.

that kylie collaboration probably fits more to an ep rather than a full length coldplay album. i'm really curious to find out what it sounds like. obviously the next album is gonna be a greatest hits collection, or am i mistaken?

Well there's the EP this Christmas and then a brand new album next year. After that, who knows. He says they might just disappear for a while again.

Madonna take note.

i wouldn't be surprised if that ep is just a digital release to promote the studio album in a way. funny how both coldplay and kylie are rumoured to depart from emi, maybe they've been waiting for this ep to be released and then publicize their decisions. as far as coldplay are concerned, i cannot see them staying with emi, i bet their album due for release next year will be a singles collection. it's really been said and done, they're leaving emi as soon as they can.
