 first of all it was 'Clocks' no2 (and sorry but from a band like Coldplay I always wait something more than a rip-off of their biggest hit..they are not like Kylie ..see 'Wow')
Secondly, most people I know hated it , although they love Coldplay...

the magnificent second single ('Fix You') recouped however for it...

Speed of Sounds made me think of Clocks as well.

Just googled some random reviews:

- Speed Of Sound feels like its Clocks but a few knobs have been twisted, but thats not a criticism.
- Critical reaction to the song was tepid. Pitchfork rated it 2.5/5, noting its melodic similarity to the band's earlier song "Clocks."
- "Speed of Sound" is most remarkable in its similarity to another Coldplay hit single, "Clocks,".
- I love this song. It's very clocks-esque.
- "Speed of sound" is indeed a similar song to "Clocks,"[...]

I'm quite enjoying the new single and looking forward to the new album. I'm not sure if the single is very radio friendly but Coldplay can do well enough without radio.

With all due respect Matys, I couldn't give a sh*t how many Googled comments say that Clocks is like Speed Of Sound. As far as I'm concerned, they do NOT sound the same. Clocks is a very repetitive song. Speed Of Sound is a very different animal to me.

Ok?

Here's a 30 second clip of the song they're giving away with the NME next week, "A Spell A Rebel Yell". Sounds very U2.

Right-click the link to download it.

------- 'Violet Hill' Video Exclusive: May 13th 2008 On Channel 4 --------------------

Radiotimes.com has announced an exclusive broadcast of Coldplay's new video for the forthcoming single, Violet Hill. It will be broadcast on UK's Channel 4 on May 13 at 11.05pm.

Coldplay recently arrived in Sicily, Italy to shoot the video for the first single, Violet Hill, taken from Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends. It was originally thought that only 'Prospekt' was present in Italy, but Italian media has confirmed that it was the whole band, ready to film a video for the first single of the fourth album. The film set had been a very restricted area, and is located in Enna (the Italian city at the highest altitude), near Nicoletti lake.

2m downloads for new Coldplay track

(Tuesday May 06, 2008 04:04 PM)

Coldplay's new single has been downloaded by two million people since it was put online last week.

Violet Hill was first made available as a free download last Tuesday.

The song is the band's first single from new album Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends.

Coldplay's website was hit by technical glitches when the song first went online, because of the huge demand.

A spokesman for the band said: "In the past seven days the single has been downloaded for free by a staggering two million people.

"It would have outsold the whole of last week's top 40 (singles) four times over."

The album release on June 12 follows the success of the album X&Y, selling 10 million copies since its release in 2005.

Violet Hill has now been released commercially.

This kinda pisses me off. Firstly, people actually PAID for the songs on the top 40. Secondly, Violet Hill has been downloaded by people from all over the world, not just the UK. You're not THAT good, Coldplay! :Topaz:
