on the other hand, the astoria was ideal for such events, it was more of a concert venue turned to a club for g.a.y's sake. i'm not sure if heaven can host live-oh the irony in britney's case- performances, but then i do remember take that playing there in the early 90s, so i guess there's nothing wrong with it. have any other premium pop acts performed g.a.y at heaven recently? if so, then there's no excuse for brit.

None of this was Britney's fault. It seems that G-A-Y are shit at organizing events. The descriptions I've read gives the impression that it actually could have had dangerous consequences had she gone on stage (no lame jokes please).
Nonsense. They've successfully played host to Madonna, Kylie, Janet and numerous other divas. Why should this two-bit crackwhore be any different?
Take a look at the responses from people who went to G-A-Y that evening and see for yourself. And just because they've hosted some good events before doesn't mean they do that now, God that argument is lame :manson:

We knew she was turning up before we even got in because getting in was a nightmare. Firstly, getting wristbands from the bar was limited to members only and they were being very fussy about groups of people. Thankfully, we got some, although we were told it did not guarantee entry and to get to the venue (Heaven) early.

We got to Heaven at 9 to find the place a shambles. There were two ques, the have wristbands and the have nots, and some door bitches (the worst kind) were gleefully yelling at the have-nots that it was members ONLY. They were also going through those with wristbands and telling those they disliked the look of to leave. In general the ambience was manic, oppressive and stressful. Bearing in mind the club didn't open till half 10, so we had to stand in the cold and rain having this barked at us for an hour and a half.

Eventually got in and things were looking up. At about midnight they started playing Britney remixes alternating with other pop songs, and released some balloons which was nice. The atmosphere by then was pretty good and top marks to the DJ for keeping me on the dancefloor for 2 solid hours. They were projecting images of Britney onto the stage which people were dancing on. Then at about half 12 we knew something was going on because a load of technicians flooded the control booth and at about 1 they started clearing people from the stage and setting it up. So of course everyone got quite excited and those from other rooms started to filter in, which is where the trouble began.

Because the main room at Heaven is just a long rectangular space that you enter (mainly) from the back, people started pushing in from behind. Between 1 and 2 this carried on, to the point where even where i was standing in the middle i was feeling badly crushed and couldn't move. People were trying to get out but there was really nowhere to go. Everyone was pushing on eachother and it was becoming more and more horrific. Meanwhile they were projecting the Circus promo onto the stage and playing Britney songs really loud to get us hyped up.

At 2, a bunch of new security blokes stormed the stage (who I can only assume were Britney's team) and started pulling people from the front of the crowd because they were collapsing or getting injured. After a few minutes of this, the house lights went up and Jeremy Joseph took the stage and made the following ridiculous announcement:

"I have some good news, and some bad news. The good news is that Britney is here and is backstage. The bad news is that she won't be coming out on stage."

Everyone started to boo, and Jeremy began signalling to someone off-stage who clearly seemed to be Britters herself. The crowd began chanting her name but he said "it's no good, her people have refused to let her come on. She's going to be in another room and some of you may get to go and see her and she'll wave and say hello, and hopefully she'll change her mind and come out on stage."

So Jeremy left and the lights went back down and the music came on, and everyone began pushing and shoving again. This went on for about 15 minutes before the DJ announced that Britney "would not be taking to the stage tonight". People began getting really angry and fights broke out. Then some G-A-Y bitchy staffer came on and told everyone to move backwards because the people at the front were being crushed. He rationalised this with "Britney is not coming out, so there's no point pushing." to which people began to boo. His response was "fine, if you want to boo Britney that's fine, it's not our fault she won't come out here."

This went on 2 or 3 times before after about 20 minutes the house lights came up again and the DJ announced that categorically, Britney would not appear tonight. The police then arrived to start breaking people up and everything stopped for 10 minutes. The G-A-Y staffer announced that Britney was in the room next door and that if people wanted to go and see her, they could.

I went into the room out of curiousity, and they were letting people in in groups. Basically it was a split level room, with the upper floor being like a VIP balcony where Britney and alot of her staff and G-A-Y officials were. Apparantly for the first group she did a kind of Q&A over the balcony and blew out a birthday cake, but by the time I got in it was basically watching her from a distance packing up and leaving.

And by then the club had pretty much emptied, leaving alot of angry and deflated people.

Interestingly, I thought it was pretty obvious that G-A-Y were trying to blame Britney for the no-show when the fault was with their midhandling of the event. Obviously Britney's people weren't happy to send her on into such a dangerous environment for the audience, and good on them. I think the fact that they spent a long time setting up for a performance and the fact that Britney showed up to the building in the early hours shows that her intentions were good.

Sadly this will result in bad PR for all parties, and I fear, the end of G-A-Y for good. They have lost all credibility and their days of being able to host megastars like Madonna seem long passed.
.....
Oh and expect this to be big news. I can't stress how awful being in that crowd was - I'm lucky I came out unscathed. The G-A-Y team completely fell apart amidst the chaos, and the best (or worst) thing is that the place was PACKED with reporters from all the major news outlets to cover Britney's performance.

I'm also considering some kind of formal complaint.

Should we bet how long is she going to resist before she takes an umbrella and hits a paparazzi? I give her four months, just after the second single is released.

What's "lame" is you trying to defend someone who is clearly a COMPLETE FUCK-UP.

WTF is that all about? Not a single problem ever at any other GAY event, yet when the Britney one turns into a mess, clearly it's not her fault?

Get a grip! :lmao:

I saw that in the paper this morning so I checked it out on youtube to see what all the fuss was about.

OMG, with that performance, Britney managed to make even Eggnog look charismatic!

Is that really the best she can come up with? It made the Brian Rogers Connection look like Cirque Du Soleil. :chuckle:

It may be my age but I couldn't tell the difference between ONE song on this album and one song on Blackout.

It's Blackout part two.

Face and body wise, she looked fantastic.

But she looked like she was choreographed by the Steven Hawking School Of Dance.

Indeed. Womaniser sounds like a Blackout B-side.

More than that it sounds horribly dated even just a few weeks after first hearing it.
