She definitely used body doubles. Everyone knows it. She's 30 years old this year, yep, still the ultimate trainwreck, but besides all that, she looks like she's in her 40s. Totally beat down. Her arms sure like to dance.

Some of the editing is just too messy and erratic, but i do love other parts of the it. Overall, it's not a bad video, just very pointless and meaningless. They're tried SO VERY HARD to match the visual brilliance and wow factor of GaGa's last three videos but have failed miserably. :chuckle:

GODGA has NOTHING to worry about. :sadbitch:
There's nothing from Gaga's previous videos there... The editing is very typical Akerlund
They did took the paint thing from Robyn's video though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zVECruSI3k

EW.com review:

Britney Spears' 'Hold It Against Me' video
by Leah Greenblatt

”Hold It Against Me,” less a music video than an endlessly anticipated, relentlessly blog-ified Video Event, has finally been held.

The verdict? It’s kind of … frantic. And not unlike the commercials for her many fragrances; call this one I Am Curious (Android).

Plus there’s the product placements for her actual fragrances, among other things—including the Gaga “Telephone” redux Plenty of Fish. Also: bullet-cased panties, a voluminous wedding dress turned splatter-paint canvas, and some hooded, twirling ninja dudes with no eyes.

The best part is undoubtedly the battle of Britney vs. Britney, in which our lady Crouching Tiger Hidden Fight Clubs her own self to the death (or narcolepsies? It’s a toss-up). Otherwise, she seems to spend a large portion of the video with the half-distracted air of a person who thinks they may have left the stove on at home.

“You just cannot deny / there’s a spark in between us,” she sings, but the spark feels imposed more by the quick edits and bravura setpieces of director Jonas Akerlund than anything else; her dance moves are scarcely shown, spliced into strobelight-second flashes of small, I’m-trapped-in-an-invisible-box movement. It’s hard not to wonder: Is Britney having any fun?

What a wretched video. It looks so, so generic. There's barely any dancing whatsoever. The product placement makes GaGa's look subtle and she looks dreadful. Zero imagination or creativity.

Truly awful from everyone involved.

harsh as always but i'd agree. The video is so contrived and trying too hard without really having anything new or interesting to say.

I still find it ridiculous that some call her fat. She has curves.

Skinny women are not sexy.

Ah yeah, she's not fat. I just don't think she looks very well though. She looks far, far older than her actual age.

videos/films that have influenced the HIAM video:

The Graeae: In Greek mythology, they were the three sisters who shared a single eye. In Britney's video, they're hoodie-wearing dudes with serious dance moves (and no eyes at all). Same thing, really.

Iamamiwhoami:
Icky, sticky viral-video enigma whose early clips featured plenty of lying around in the fetal position (and amniotic fluids). In "HIAM," Britney, covered in similarly sticky liquid, curls up on the floor, striking a pose that would make Iamami proud.

Kanye West, "Runaway":
Over-the-top 35-minute mini-movie/allegory starring West as a man who cares for a phoenix who has fallen to Earth. The meteor that crashes to Earth at the beginning of "HIAM" reminds us a lot of the phoenix's fiery entrance in 'Ye's film. And, if you look hard enough, you can also see the song's lyrics printed out in the top left corner of the shot.

Madonna, "Bedtime Stories": Ultra-artistic 1995 video, directed by Mark Romanek, that cost a reported $5 million to make. From the futuristic set and the special effects to Brit's long, flowing gown and whirling dancers, it appears to be a direct influence on pretty much everything in "HIAM." Though we're willing to bet Brit didn't spend nearly as much to make her version.

Madonna, "Die Another Day": Big-budget 2002 Madonna video from the equally big-budget James Bond film of the same name. It featured a memorable fight scene that pitted Madge against her alter ego (Mariah Carey did the same thing in her "Heartbreaker" video, BTW). In "HIAM," Britney battles her alter ego in a (very fashionable) kung fu fight.

"The Matrix": Wachowski brothers franchise that featured plenty of TV screens and a whole lot of marauding machinery, just like "HIAM." Like Keanu said, "Whoa."

"Mortal Kombat":
Totally awesome (and violent) fighting game that featured, among its cast of characters, a blue-garbed assassin named Sub-Zero. In "HIAM," Britney's dancers don outfits similar to him, only they don't shoot ice out of their hands. Unless that part's in the director's cut.

Robyn, "Indestructible": Sexy 2010 video from Sweden's sexiest pop export, it featured Robyn writhing on a table while wearing a dress made entirely of clear plastic tubes (courtesy of Australian artist Lucy McRae), sort of like the ones Britney uses to spray colored liquid all over the "HIAM" set.

"The Rocky Horror Picture Show": Cult 1975 film adapted from a British play, its iconic poster featured a pair of bright-red lips, which seem to have also made their way into "HIAM."

Tool, Ænema: Totally excellent 1996 album that featured several covers, one of which was a creepy, double-irised eyeball, courtesy of artist Cam de Leon. If you blink (get it?!?), you might miss a similar eyeball that pops up in "HIAM."

no.

what sounds "utterly generic , late, and by-the-numbers" is the production of BTW. This song sounds way, way better than HIAM.

Uh...no.

How many times does she have to say it's inspired by the late 80s/early 90s female pop? It's clearly a throwback to the production styles from that era, with some contemporary elements added too.

It gives me goosebumps, unlike Britney's recent drek.

http://buzzworthy.mtv.com/2011/02/18/britney-spears-hold-it-against-me-video-fan-reactions/

Much like we did when Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me" single dropped, we have again taken to the internet to find the most hilarious, passionate and possibly nutty reactions to her "Hold It Against Me" video.

When you're looking for intense reactions to a Britney Spears song or video, you might as well not lollygag; you just go to the eye of the storm that is the fan community, Oh No They Didn't.

As you can imagine, initial reactions were...intense. Lots of words were written, lots of exclamation points were dropped. But, perhaps user "benrobot" best summed up the feelings of first responders with this gif...

Praise be. One thing that was especially interesting about the reactions to this video were that they were as much about the reactions as the video itself. User "hotlush" invoked some kind of manning of the ramparts (I think) with the comment, "Amazing, flawless, simply her best since WOMANIZER. Everyone stock up on wood cause the haters will be pressed against. March 29 couldn't come quicker."

But perhaps most interesting among all the ONTD comments were the theories about what "Hold It Against Me," like, really means, man. Take it away, "kimberlli":

"So this video was totally symbolizing her rise to fame with all her music videos playing as she was raised up in the dress, then when she fell back down, spraying the paint everywhere, and the joker smile was her breakdown and trying to act happy, and THAT AWESOME FIGHT SCENE was her fighting the bad parts about her away, and becoming herself again."

Gaga already said that it was an early 90s inspired production. Duh.

i LOVE 'Born this way' for MANY reasons but its production, throwback or not, isn't one of them.

I can't imagine it being produced in any other way. The production is *perfect* for the song.
