Oooh, nice one! Yeah, there's a Dublin date due to be announced soon. I reckon I'll get a ticket too!
I feel sorry for my John. Not only is he not a madonna and Janet Jackson fans, but he's being dragged to both of these heritage acts with me.

She's nominated for the 2016 Rock & Roll Roll Hall of Fame inductions.

Shocking considering her dubious writing credits and mimed concerts.

I'm still getting used to the Friday release dates for albums lol.

THIS CHART STORY IS UNBREAKABLE

Janet Jackson Tops The Chart With Her First Album in Seven Years;
10 Debuts Make Up the Top 20

BMG/Rhythm Nation’s Janet Jackson has topped the HITS Album Sales Chart with 106k and the Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart with 112k for her 11th studio album (and first in seven years), Unbreakable.

It’s been a good week for Jackson considering that she was also just announced as a nominee for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the 2016 ceremony.

Official Nielsen Soundscan/Billboard 200 numbers:

"Unbreakable -- which was released on Oct. 2 -- arrives atop the chart with 116,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 8, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, the set sold 109,000 in pure album sales."

Apparently she had a concert ticket bundle promo like Madonna, Cher, Linkin Park etc. Unbreakable is already down to #17 on iTunes so she's looking at a nasty 2nd week drop.

no, she didn't have a concert bundle to inflate album sales in the states. that figure consists of units purchased traditionally. ticket holders for her uk dates have the option of paying an extra tenner to get the album, though.

on the other hand, neither did rebel heart benefit from the whole tour ticket bundle even though that was the original plan. contrary to the situation of mdna and due to some technical malfunction those in possession of a tour ticket were not able redeeming their copy of rebel heart, which probably explains low sales.

A bit under 10,000 copies of RH's first week sales were concert ticket bundle redemptions, per Billboard. The only difference from MDNA was that there was no physical album option this time.

HITS confirms the US concert ticket/album bundle:

Quote:

Janet Jackson’s chart-topper this week was aided by the 30k units that were part of a ticket bundle for her tour, which explains why the album sold so well with virtually no airplay. The veteran artist and her wealthy husband, fashion mogul Wissam Al Mana, who financed the recording and underwrote her Rhythm Nation label, had shopped the album to the majors but got nary a nibble, enabling BMG to pick it up. It’s turning out to be a good move for the company’s recorded-music division, which is finally showing signs of life under Jon Cohen.

Headed for a 2nd week drop of 83% at best:

TOP 15: SELENA TAKES THE LEAD

It’s still close at midweek—also known as Tuesday—but for now we’re giving a slight edge to Interscope’s Selena Gomez for #1 on Friday’s album chart. Gomez stretches her lead considerably, however, when tracks and streams are factored in. eOne’s The Game is holding up surprisingly well with The Documentary 2 and driving interest in this Friday’s release of his follow-up, The Documentary 2.5. Here’s how it looks at midweek.

*Selena Gomez (Interscope) 80-85k albums, 105-115k SPS
*The Game (eOne) 75-80k, 85-95k
The Weeknd (XO/Republic) 33-38k, 70-75k
Taylor Swift (Big Machine/BMLG) 20-25k, 35-40k
*Jana Kramer (Warner Bros. Nashville) 19-22k, 21-24k
Don Henley (Capitol) 18-21k, 18-21k
Janet Jackson (BMG/Rhythm Nation) 17-20k, 21-24k
Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville) 17-20k, 25-28k
Now 55 (NOW) 15-18k
Drake & Future (YMCMB/Republic/Epic) 15-18k, 50-55k
Thomas Rhett (Valory/BMLG) 16-19k, 24-27k
George Strait (MCA Nashville) 16-19k, 17-20k
Fetty Wap (WMG) 15-18k, 50-55k
*Toby Keith (Show Dog) 14-17k, 16-19k
*Mayday Parade (Fearless) 14-17k, 16-19k

No lol. Unbreakable sold 7,000 copies less the first week and just had a bigger 2nd week drop selling over 6,000 copies less it's 2nd week. The deficit increased from 7,000 to 13,000 from week 1 to week 2.

Internationally Unbreakable sold 35,000 copies the first week. (RH did 36,829 in the UK.)

I thought her tour was a success ?
Well the only cities she's playing multiple dates in are those where she's playing theaters, one of which only has 2,400 seats. For the arena shows it looks like they're placing her stage half way down the court so she can (try and) "sell out" the arenas with shows that are actually half capacity. Oh, and even in London her tickets top out at $115.

This is the only (disastrous) BoxScore we've gotten so far:

$8 million from 13 reported shows would be fine if she weren't a veteran artist with 6 RIAA Multi-Platinum albums and 10 Hot 100 #1 singles. That's an average of under $700,000 per show. Even Cher and Shania recently averaged over $1 million per show.

The entire second half of the tour, Europe included, has been "postponed" so she can "have surgery".
