Well I think some of us do "sort of" like it. It's not a total disaster by any means, but in terms of what she really *NEEDS* to deliver at this point, it's not even close.

I kind of agree... but do you think the idea that that kind of pop music isn't alive anymore. It'll be a huge surprise to me if a pop artist makes something that's like amazing.... like in the 80s and 90s.

Eh...I *totally* disagree!

Have you heard of a singer called Madonna? She's doing rather well for herself making amazing pop music.

Well, yeah.... it's the *event* status I was really referring to :shy:

It was just maybe a small factor I wanted to suggest

The thing is, Janet has sort of backed herself into a corner now and she really needed to come up with a spectacularly good comeback album. Some of the material on "Discipline" is an improvement on her recent form, but nothing is anywhere near good enough to make the people who have abandoned her sit up and take notice again. The music has to be *incredible* for her to have any chance of success.

I guess pop has been kinda cheapened over the years, with all the American Idol shit and stuff like that. It's not really "cool" to make good pop music anymore. If you want to be cool, you have to be a rapper or in an emo/indie band. Such a shame. I do believe that it only takes ONE amazing pop album to turn it around though. But then again, nobody's really making *true* pop music anymore. It's always pop/dance or pop/hiphop/rap or shit like that.

I think at this point she could release the best album of the last 10 years and it would still be a huge flop.

Which was NEVER going to happen? I'm surprised if anyone really thought that incredible album was gonna be this one

With all the pictures and the awesome cover and Feedback and the brilliant video it had... I had my hopes up. It's not as great as I expected it to be but I think it's a solid album.

I don't know. I think we owe those great numbers to the fans... I doubt it's going to sell much after that.

His new album... I honestly don't know. I doubt people will be able to look beyond the accusations, his looks and all that. So yeah. Ova.

I had high hopes for this album especially since LA Reid was executive producing it. The biggest drawback of Janet's latest albums was awful A&R. They were messy and cluttered. There were some good tracks on there but they were drowned out by the gunk. Sadly, this album is 'ok'. I kinda put it on as I browse the net and it's pleasant enough but... that's it. It just fades in the background. Where's If? Where's You Want This? Where's What'll I do? Those tracks just pounded you into submission whether you wanted to or not.

Yeah well. It's the same thing with Prince. His albums don't touch the run that he had in the 80's but they're still good. I guess Madonna makes it look so easy, we expect it from everyone.

Overly high expectations is a big factor methinks

I don't agree. Why shouldn't we expect great music from great artists? I'll never understand this ability you have to be pleased with medicore stuff just because it's "not too bad" etc etc. I always expect the very best from artists. It's not always delivered, but most genuinely great acts will deliver it more than Janice does.

Hmm. How come her live shows are so kak then?

I saw her back in about 1991 and her stage show then was incredibly entertaining.

Not sure what she's like since, but then, she was brilliant.

In fairness, you and I have very different opinions on what constitutes a great show.
