What's this "Madonna tried something different" routine? American Life is just a continuation of the folktronica that worked really well on Music. Instead on American Life it comes off as sounding like demos from the Music album. There are no moments of brilliance, it just plods along. The most "Madonna moment" of the album, Love Profusion, still wouldn't match up to what she's capable of.

I also think you're giving too much credit to the music video. Most of the general American public weren't even aware of Madonna's album.

American Life is weak.

well, Madonna was blacklisted from US radio for nearly five years because of Clear Channel blacklisting her for the "unpatriotic" music video. It took Justin and Timbaland to finally get American radio to play her again, US radio boycotted the AL album and the boycott carried over to COADF.

I like American Life, I'm not going to change my stand just because it's an unpopular opinion. I notice people who say Hard Candy is one of her best albums ever and I think HC is probably her most embarassing album to date and a massive disappointment after the albums that she's following up, and yes, to me that includes Music and AL.

How punk rock of you.

Saying that people only hate American Life because it sold bad is like saying you only love American Life because it's the black sheep. It just doesn't work. It also seems to me that a lot of people love it. In fact, I think there are more people who love it than there are people who hate it.

It's just an uninspired, boring mess of an album. Goldtooth is right. The best tracks on it, Love Profusion and Nobody Knows Me don't even come close to being classic Madonna songs.

if you want a "bad" Madonna album, look at Bedtime Stories or even half of Hard Candy. American Life and Music are in the Like A Prayer/Ray Of Light zeitgeist in comparison to those two.

People only love to gang up on American Life because it didn't sell. Well, it looks like Hard Candy is going to take that albums place as the uberflop of her career, especially since it's so much more US mainstream than AL was, and still it's selling poor. AL was doomed from the moment the title track was released as a single, 4 Minutes is her biggest American hit since Music and yet people are still not buying the album.

I love Music and American Life and yes, they are up there with the great Madonna albums IMO, so shoot me

Oh, god, someone needs to clean out their ears. Don't even touch Bedtime Stories! That was a great album that spawned some of her greatest songs.

Janet is calling back fans who call her hotline. They're all detailing their conversations with her. She actually responded to people's Youtube videos as well. Pretty cool.

Janet is now doing what she always does when she releases a bomb.... places the blame on something besides herself.

She is blaming Discipline bombing on L.A. Reid and her disagreeing on what the second single should've been, she wanted Rock With You and he wanted Luv. And now she wants out of her Island contract. Jesus Janet, take some blame for a change.

How lame. Even the FIRST single bombed everywhere. It had nothing to do with the second single.

Feedback was hardly a BOMB, at least not in the States. It was a top 20 hit.

henZ, I adore you, but please. As a comeback single, it absolutely tanked.

I know it. You know it. We all know it.

Okay, so it wasn't a big comeback hit but a top 20 single is hardly a bomb, is it? I mean... American Life bombed. There's a difference.

American Life was a Top 10 hit in most countries of the developed world.

Feedback wasn't a Top 10 hit anywhere on the planet.

Please, I'm *begging* you to stop being so foolish about this. I'm not referring to the quality of the music(for the record I loved Feedback), but make no mistake, Feedback was a worldwide disaster. I'm not asking you to burn your JJ albums, just to accept what we all know.

SO there's gonna be no more singles from DIscipline.... like that's a big shock! And she's probably gonna leave the label. The album was DOA

BUt I do hope I get to see her tour *prays*

well, I see where Henz and Riv are both coming from

"Feedback" wasn't a total Janet-sized flop in the states when you consider it was her first top 20 single since 2001, without a doubt bigger than any tracks from Demented Ho or 20 Copies Sold.

But at the same time, it's obvious Island was aiming for a top 10 smash that was going to restore Janet to the charts like they successfully did with Mariah. Plus, it only spent a mere two weeks in the top 40 boosted by a couple good weeks on iTunes when the album came out.

Are these new pics or are they from the Discipline booklet? I haven't seen them before.

has her album even sold half a million copies worldwide? how can she expect to sell tour tickets on the back of such a flop? it's not as if people are still intrigued by her star status that they're gonna want to see her even though she hasn't had a decent sized hit in ages.

you guys are missing out the brilliance of StrawberryBounce on MadonnaNation. He's the most deluded Janazi I've ever encountered.

He claims that American Life and Hard Candy are flops but.... 20 Y.O. and Discipline are smash albums and that people need to take the sales decline of the industry in account for why Discipline has sold only 600k worldwide, but Hard Candy is a megabomb for selling 1.2 million in less than half the time
