ridiculously enough, some 100k people in the states bought a digital copy of set fire to the rain last week
while i rate it as her finest moment, one would have thought casual buyers would just get the album instead
her level of commercial success at this moment is truly extraordinary. ten years ago and at this stage, this album would have sold, like, 30 million

At least she has said that she's not going to release another album for at least 2-3 years.

Thank fuck for that!

19, 21 and the live DVD are ALL going to have their BIGGEST sales weeks YET in the US this week:

http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgi

As we head into the big holiday weekend, all four (soon to become three) major distributors are represented in the Top 5. Michael Buble holds on to the #1 spot for a fifth week and moves up to the #2 best-selling album of 2011, unseating Lady Gaga's Born This Way. Adele scores her best-ever sales week at #2. And, unless something very unexpected happens next week, the Britpop thrush should reclaim the #1 spot for the final chart of 2011. Due to the holiday weekend, please expect a greater than usual margin of error.

Michael Buble (Reprise) 425-450k
Adele 21 (XL/Columbia) 375-400k
*Young Jeezy (Def Jam/IDJ) 200-225
Justin Bieber (Island/IDJ) 175-200k
Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 115-125k
Drake (Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Republic) 100-110k
Nickelback (Roadrunner) 100-110k
Andrea Bocelli (Decca) 95-105k
Scotty McCreery (Mercury Nashville/19/Interscope) 90-95k
Rihanna (Def Jam/IDJ) 90-95k
The Black Keys (Nonesuch) 90-95k
Now 40 (Capitol/EMI) 90-95k
Coldplay (Capitol/EMI) 80-85k
Adele 19 (XL/Columbia) 75-80k
Jason Aldean (Broken Bow) 75-80k

*Debuts (12/22p)

ADELE FUN FACTS: Adele is on track to sell up to 6 million copies of her XL/ Columbia album 21 this year, with this week projected to hit as high as 400k. This will be the only time since 2004, and maybe only the second time ever, that the #1 album of the year will sell more than twice as much as the runner-up. Closing with a rush, Reprise crooner Michael Buble's Christmas is projected to hit 2.5 million by the end of the chart year, jumping over Lady Gaga's Born This Way for the #2 spot. In 2004, Usher's Confessions sold 7.98 million with Norah Jones' Feels Like Home landing at #2 by selling 3.84 million. In yet another Adele triumph, all three of her releases, which include her debut album, 19, and DVD release, Live at Royal Albert Hall, are projected to have their best-ever sales weeks. To read our own Roy Trakin's interview with the lady of the year in music, conducted just before her debut album made her a star, click here. (12/22p)

Week Ending Jan. 22, 2012. Albums: Synchronicity!
By Paul Grein | Chart Watch – 15 hours ago

Adele's 21 tops The Billboard 200 for the 17th week, which is the longest run by any album since Whitney Houston's The Bodyguard soundtrack logged 20 weeks on top in 1992-1993. It's the longest run for a regular studio album (excluding soundtracks) since Billy Ray Cyrus' Some Gave All logged 17 weeks at #1 in 1992. It's the longest run for an album by a British artist since the Police's Synchronicity was #1 for 17 weeks in 1983. (Two of the three members of that trio were born in England.)

Only two albums by British (or majority-British) acts have had longer runs at #1. Fleetwood Mac's Rumours logged 31 weeks at #1 in 1977-'78. (Three of the five members that pop-rock group were born in England.) The Bee Gees' Saturday Night Fever soundtrack logged 24 weeks at #1 in 1978. (All three members of the brother trio were born in England.)

21 returns to #1 in the U.K. for a 20th week on top. 21 is the first non-soundtrack ever to log 17 or more weeks at #1 in both the U.S. and the U.K. Only three other albums (all of them soundtracks) have accomplished this feat: the 1958 South Pacific soundtrack (115 weeks at #1 in the U.K., 31 weeks on top in the U.S.), Elvis Presley's 1961 Blue Hawaii soundtrack (18 weeks in the U.K., 20 weeks in the U.S.) and the Bee Gees' Saturday Night Fever soundtrack (18 weeks in the U.K., 24 weeks in the U.S.)

Here's the low-down on this week's top 10 albums.

1. Adele, 21, 95,000. The album logs its 17th week at #1. This is its 48th week in the top 10. The album sold 33K digital copies this week, which puts it at #1 on Top Digital Albums for the 12th week. Four songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "Set Fire To The Rain," which dips from #1 to #2.

Adele's 2008 album 19 jumps from #16 to #15. It's #1 on Top Catalog Albums for the 32nd week...

Adele's Live At The Royal Albert Hall holds at #1 on Top Music Videos. The DVD sold 17K copies this week, bringing its eight-week total to 511K.

19th week at #1 for 21.

This week it will top 6.5 million and thus surpass Taylor Swift's Fearless to become the highest selling album by a female artist since Carrie Underwood's Some Hearts from 2005. (And she'll surpass that album in a month or less.)

It may also spend it's 20th week at #1 this week:

HDD

With the Grammy Awards on Sunday night and the last weekend before Valentine's Day upon us, there is a lot more conjecture than usual in this week's midweek projections. The show's performers typically see substantial increases after appearing, as evidenced by the remarkable spike seen last year by Mumford & Sons. Can Adele, who is performing and favored to win Album, Record and Song of the Year, see a big enough lift to keep Van Halen from scoring next week's #1 record? Here's how it looks headed into Grammy weekend:

*Van Halen (Interscope) 180-195k
Adele 21 (XL/Columbia) 175-190k

The album is projected to have it's biggest week yet, in its 52nd week on the chart. It's going to do over 400,000 and top 7 million in exactly one year of release.

I saw that too. No class. Also, the make-up on her cheeks made her look like she'd just had a run-in with Chris Brown on the red carpet.

For which song??? Her videos are perfunctory at best. They made a sham of that category by giving her that award.
