Probably my favourite song on "21". The breakdown half way through is stunning!

Adele - "Rumour Has It"

This is no rumor. Adele's next single, her fourth off the Grammy winning "21" album, will be the stompingly catchy "Rumour Has It," Billboard has confirmed.

Adele collaborator Ryan Tedder, who co-wrote the song with Adele and produced it, revealed the news on the Grammy red carpet on Sunday (Feb. 12). "I found out three days ago that I have the next single," Tedder told Billboard. "I'm very excited about it."

"Rumour Has It" is heading to pop, adult pop and adult contemporary radio in mid-March, a Columbia Records executive confirmed on Monday. The song was going to be the follow-up to "Someone Like You," but the label switched to "Set Fire to the Rain," which topped the Hot 100 in recent weeks and currently sits at No. 2.

The track already has a history on the singles chart. "Rumour" reached No. 60 on the Hot 100 in December, fueled largely by the "Glee" cast's exposure of the song. The same week, the TV troupe bowed at No. 11 with its mash-up of the song and Adele's "Someone Like You."

(Another "21" track, "Turning Tables," peaked at No. 63 on the Hot 100 -- another by product of a "Glee" cover.)

Previously, "Rumour" had been serviced only to adult alternative radio and it reached No. 1 on Billboard's Triple A chart in August. The song will follow "Rolling in the Deep," "Someone Like You" and "Set Fire to the Rain" as multi-format singles.

Tedder told Billboard he's excited that Adele and her once-in-a-generation voice have "cut through" to achieve mainstream success.

"I'm just excited that somebody as raw and real as that has cut through at radio and cut through at culture," he told us. "I've never seen anything like it, I feel honored to be involved with it."

Week Ending Feb. 12, 2012. Albums: Adele Ties Whitney
By Paul Grein | Chart Watch - 3 hours ago

http://music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/week-ending-feb-12-2012-albums-adele-ties-124552378.html

Adele's 21 tops The Billboard 200 for the 20th week. This enables it to tie Whitney Houston's The Bodyguard soundtrack as the longest-running #1 album since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales for Billboard in 1991. That is a remarkable coincidence, since Houston died on Saturday, just one day before the end of this tracking week.

This is the seventh consecutive week at #1 for 21. It's the first album to log seven straight weeks at #1 since Taylor Swift's Fearless three years ago.

The album sold 88K digital copies this week, which pushes its digital total over the 2 million mark. It's the first album to sell 2 million digital copies. (The first album to sell 1 million was Eminem's Recovery, just last July.)

Adele's 2008 album 19 leaps from #19 to #9, which is its highest ranking to date. The album previously peaked at #10 in the week after the 2009 Grammys, when Adele won her first two trophies. This is the first time that Adele has had two albums in the top 10 simultaneously.

Here's the low-down on this week's top 10 albums.

1. Adele, 21, 237,000. The album logs its 20th week at #1. This is its 51st week in the top 10. The album is #1 on Top Digital Albums for the 13th week. Four songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs, topped by "Set Fire To The Rain," which drops from #2 to #4.

9. Adele, 19, 36,000. The album jumps from #19 to #9 in its 121st week on the chart. This is its highest ranking to date. This is its second week in the top 10. Two songs from the album are listed on Hot Digital Songs. "Make You Feel My Love" re-enters at #145. "Chasing Pavements" re-enters at #180.

Adele's Live At The Royal Albert Hall is #1 on Top Music Videos for the 11th straight week. The DVD sold 27K copies this week, bringing its total to 574K.

This week it will top 6.5 million and thus surpass Taylor Swift's Fearless to become the highest selling album by a female artist since Carrie Underwood's Some Hearts from 2005. (And she'll surpass that album in a month or less.)
astonishing.

She'll actually surpass Carrie and her 7.15 million with next week's sales. 21 is now at a little over 6.6 million and is projected to sell *at least* 400,000 this week on the back of her Grammy sweep, her biggest sales week yet. That will take her to 7 million and change, allowing the week after to take her past 'Some Hearts.'

And actually, HDD told another poster on Twitter that the album selling 600,000 this week "isn't out of the question," so she may actually overtake Carrie this week! Regardless, with "Rumor Has It" on tap after already selling 700,000 downloads the album should easily hit 8 million by mid summer, and that's if the sales bottom out a little in between now and then.

Within a month or so she'll overtake Nickelback's 'All The Right Reasons' and the debut album from Evanescence and then once she scans past 8 million in the summer she'll be overtaking 50 Cent and Christina's debut albums.

the album should easily get a diamond certification at some point in the near future, if not by the end of this year. at this pacee, 21 could actually become again the year's biggest seller.

In what can only be called a remarkable week following her six Grammy wins, Adele is on track to sell 650k+ on next week's chart. This will mark 21's 21st week at #1 and set a new record for the most weeks on top during the SoundScan era. As of next week's chart, 21 will have sold 1.5m albums so far this year, giving it a sizable lead over any upcoming new releases for the best-selling album of 2012. Yes, we're calling it only seven weeks into the year. Here's how it looks post-Grammy/Valentine's Day:

Adele 21 (XL/Columbia) 650-680k
Adele 19 (XL/Columbia) 80-90k

ADELEMANIA: Never mind Linsanity, the record biz is basking in its own superstar in XL/ Columbia’s Adele, whose 21 album will spend its 21st week at #1 today with more than 700k in post-Grammy sales, sending it over 7 million, while our retail seers have already dubbed it the best-selling album of 2012. In addition, her first album, 19, is now #4, with another 85-90k in sales. Meanwhile, Whitney Houston’s Greatest Hits lands at #2 with 150-175k after last weekend’s funeral in Newark (see Clive Davis’ eulogy here), giving Sony three of the Top 4. (2/21a)

Rumor has it Madonna will be performing on American Idol during the results show the day after the contestants sing songs from her catalog. Interscope has an ongoing promotional relationship with AI. (Remember they previewed the GMAYL video.)

Literally every paragraph in this Billboard article lays out a record 21 has broken or is about to break:

http://www.billboard.com/news/adele-s-21-hits-21st-week-at-no-1-sells-1006245952.story#/news/adele-s-21-hits-21st-week-at-no-1-sells-1006245952.story

Adele's "21" album hits a number of major milestones this week on the Billboard 200 chart, as it basks in the glow of the British diva's multiple Grammy Award wins on Feb. 12.

The album sold 730,000 copies in the U.S. last week (ending Feb. 19) according to Nielsen SoundScan -- up a whopping 207%. It spends a 21st week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

It is the biggest sales week for any album since Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" debuted at No. 1 with 964,000 on the chart dated Sept. 17, 2011. 730,000 is also the largest week for "21," as its previous-best week came over the Christmas holiday, when it shifted 399,000.

More impressively, the last time a non-debuting album sold more than "21" did this past week was on the chart dated Jan. 5, 2008. That was when Josh Groban's "Noel" album moved 757,000 copies over the busy Christmas week of 2007.

Among all albums, since SoundScan started tracking sales in 1991, "21" has the second-largest sales week for an album outside of the Christmas shopping season and its first month of release. Only the "Titanic" soundtrack moved more (with those qualifiers) on the chart dated Feb. 28, 1998, when it sold 848,000 at No. 1 -- two months after its debut. (It had a huge gain that week on the chart -- it was up by 44% -- thanks to the Valentine's Day holiday.)

"21" is No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart for a 21st nonconsecutive week, marking the longest-running No. 1 album in the SoundScan era. It surpasses "The Bodyguard" soundtrack (20 weeks at No. 1 in 1992-1993) for the most chart-topping frames since the Billboard 200 began using SoundScan data in 1991.

"21" -- Adele's second album -- also becomes the longest-running No. 1 album by a woman in history, surpassing the Whitney Houston-led "Bodyguard" album.

Next up in "21's" sights is M.C. Hammer's "Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em," which also banked 21 weeks at No. 1 back in 1990.

Here are the albums with the most weeks at No. 1 in the nearly-56 year history of the Billboard 200 chart:

Weeks at No. 1, Title, Artist, Peak Year
54, "West Side Story" soundtrack, 1962**
37, "Thriller," Michael Jackson, 1983
31, "Rumours," Fleetwood Mac, 1977
31, "South Pacific" soundtrack, 1958
31, "Calypso," Harry Belafonte, 1956
24, "Purple Rain," Prince and the Revolution/Soundtrack, 1984
24, "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack, 1978
21, "Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em," M.C. Hammer, 1990
21, "21," Adele, 2011

** (The figure of 54 weeks at No. 1 combines the set's time atop separate stereo and mono LP charts before the Billboard 200 became a singular ranking the week of Aug. 17, 1963.)

"21" also turns one-year old on the Billboard 200 as it claims its 52nd week on the list. The album has never left the top 10 in its entire chart run, dipping only as low as No. 7 on Dec. 10, 2011.

Adele is not only No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this week, but she's also No. 4 with her debut set, "19" (87,000; up 144%). It's the album's best sales week and highest position. Combined, "21" and "19" moved 817,000 copies last week.

This is the first time an act has two concurrent albums in the top four of the chart since Oct. 9, 2004, when Nelly's concurrently-released "Suit" and "Sweat" were Nos. 2 and 4 in their second week on the chart.

The last time an act snared two albums in the top five -- that weren't released at the same time -- was on April 4, 1992. That was when Garth Brooks' "Ropin' the Wind" was No. 2 and "No Fences" was No. 4.

It should be noted that while Billboard 200 has allowed catalog (older) albums to chart since the end of 2009 (thus why we see "19" in the top four), that wasn't always the case. On the now-defunct Top Comprehensive Albums chart (which ranked both new and old albums), Michael Jackson posthumously notched three out of the top four during seven nonconsecutive weeks in 2009.

Finally, "21's" so-far three singles moved an incredible number of downloads last week -- a combined total of 709,000. "Rolling in the Deep" shifted 271,000 (up 115%), "Set Fire to the Rain" did 254,000 (up 36%) and "Someone Like You" sold 183,000 (up 44%).

Ugh judging from that article, 21 didn't really break any significant records.
So being the longest running #1 album of the past 20 years/the entire Soundscan Era isn't significant? Or being the longest running #1 album ever by a female solo act? Or being #1 with your biggest sales week yet 52 weeks after having had already debuted at #1 with over 350,000?

Adele's 21 will easily score another week at #1, her 22nd, with an estimated total now close to 300k.
That would send the album up to 7.6 million over the course of its year in the marketplace, and makes it the favorite to finish as the top-sellng album for two years in a row, a first for the Soundscan era.

I watched her Brits performance last night and I must admit I actually thought she sounded a little rough. I don't mean rough by Katy Perry standards obviously but being as all she really has going for her is her voice it was a worry that it wasn't fantastic. I'm not saying this as a 'hater' by the way - I rather like her, I was just surprised.

Adele overtakes Michael Jackson in all-time biggest selling albums chart

The Official Charts Company can today reveal that sales of Adele’s 21 have overtaken those of Michael Jackson’s Bad in the UK.

Adele’s second album, 21, smashed the 4 million sales barrier after her BRITs performance last week and went on to bag the Number 1 spot on the Official Albums Chart for its 21st non-consecutive week at the summit. It has now sold nearly 61,000 more copies than The King Of Pop’s classic 1987 album, Bad.

Released on January 24, 2011, 21 has spent 57 weeks on the Official Albums Chart and has never left the Top 10. In just over a year it has sold over 4,020,000 copies, making it not only the biggest selling album of the 21st Century, but also the eighth biggest selling album of all time. If 21’s post-BRITs momentum continues, in the next few weeks it could also eclipse sales of Pink Floyd’s 1973 album Dark Side Of the Moon (7) and Dire Straits’ 1985 album, Brothers In Arms (6).

“This is another incredible achievement to cap a year of incredible achievements for Adele,” comments the Official Charts Company’s managing director Martin Talbot. “By overtaking Bad, 21 has truly, officially cemented Adele’s place among the all-time greats. Who would bet against her improving further on that achievement, by taking steps towards the all-time Top 5?”

The Official Charts’ Top 10 biggest selling albums of all time are as follows:

01 GREATEST HITS – QUEEN (5,863,000)
02 SGT PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND – THE BEATLES (5,044,000)
03 GOLD: GREATEST HITS – ABBA (4,989,000)
04 WHAT'S THE STORY MORNING GLORY – OASIS (4,517,000)
05 THRILLER - MICHAEL JACKSON (4,248,000)
06 BROTHERS IN ARMS - DIRE STRAITS (4,152,000)
07 THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON - PINK FLOYD (4,114,000)
08 21 – ADELE (4,020,000)
09 BAD - MICHAEL JACKSON (3,959,000)
10 GREATEST HITS II – QUEEN (3,887,000)
