I am so very, very tired of this woman and her above-average but hardly astonishing voice and songs.

u're being a bit too harsh on her, riv. she comes across as a pretty likeable person and it's not really her fault she's turned into a housewives darling. i guess it's more to do with her mega success and her songs saturated to death by all media that it suddenly feels the dedicated music fans are obliged to grow tired of her.

She does seem mostly likeable...but then she'll come out with some catty comment about "Not having to use gimmicks or be skinny to sell my music." As if she's some superior artist that doesn't have to look good to sell records. i.e. slating GaGa.

That kind of thing pisses me right off. She's far from the sweet-natured girl the press makes her out to be. She's quite stuck-up and pretentious in her own way.

And I'm sorry, but I *genuinely* don't think her album is particularly brilliant. It's a decent collection of songs, with some filler. It doesn't in any way deserve the success it's having. And don't get me started on that performance of "Someone Like You" at the Brits, which is LITTERED with bum notes at the start and end. Flawless my arse. Her voice doesn't have even a tenth of the soul, passion and beauty that Amy Winehouse's had either. She is way, WAY overrated in my opinion.

Rolling In The Deep, Rumor Has It, Set Fire To The Rain, and Someone Like You are the only notable tracks on 21.

Nope. She's essentially little more than a fat Celine Dion. Her music is perfect for elevators and shopping malls, but her voice simply doesn't have enough character in my opinion and most of her songs are pleasant, but nothing more. Next to someone like Amy Winehouse, she sounds INCREDIBLY generic, both vocally and lyrically. Her lyrics are full of bland, generic sentiments that could be found on dozens of other albums released every year. I don't find her remotely interesting and her music certainly doesn't give me goosebumps like other artists do.

I'm not going to pretend I think she's some sort of hugely amazing artist just because she has sold a zillion albums. I find most of her album rather dull and that's that.

Roll on the backlash.

what's insane is the album not losing any pace on the charts - 6 million units sold between america and the uk already and it's still going as strong as in its first month of release. it's bound to sell shitloads by the end of the year

It really is astonishing. Even crazier to think that she's only made one video so far too, for Rolling In The Deep. There was no proper video for Someone Like You and still doesn't seem to be one for Set Fire To The Rain.

SLY just entered the Top 60 of the Pop radio format here and it doesn't even go for adds until the 16th.

Another reason Madonna should wait until 2012 to launch her next era.

I don't know about you but I like for more than half of an album to be notably good. I won't call '21' impressive/excellent/a masterpiece for the same reason I didn't bestow either of Gwen's solo albums with such adjectives despite their singles and sales success, only half of them were any good.

And even then, the 4 excellent tracks on '21' are still by-the-numbers for their genres.

Exactly!

Even the best stuff on "21" is far from amazing. They're just good songs, but far from great. She has just struck a chord at the moment and is bland enough to appeal to people across the board. I liked the album as soon as I heard it back before all this hoopla kicked in, but I tired of it a few weeks later. It really isn't THAT good. Far from it.

She's actually going to be #1, or a very close #2, on the Billboard 200 again next week. She has yet to leave the Top 3.
