earthquake is the spookiest natural phenomenon for the simple reason it cuts u off guarded and stone cold, no matter how well aware u are of the chances for it happening. japan was 100 percent prepared for an earthquake of that climate, but the tsunami and the biblic catastrophe it caused just confirm the fact some incidents in nature are just way above our strengths. |

I have a Japanese friend whose friend is missing. At least they were unable to contact her so far I can't believe the nuclear meltdown is adding extra trouble. As if 8.9-point earthquake was not enough! |

earthquakes, followed by tsunami, a nuclear disaster and now a volcano is about to erupt?!? ---- Volcano in southern Japan resumes eruptions The Associated Press Sunday, March 13, 2011; 11:15 AM TOKYO -- The weather agency says a volcano in southern Japan is spewing ash and rock again as the country struggles with the aftermath of a catastrophic earthquake and tsunami in the north. The Meteorological Agency issued a warning Sunday saying that Shinmoedake volcano resumed activity after a couple of quiet weeks. The mountain is on Kyushu island, 950 miles (1,500 kilometers) from the epicenter of Friday's magnitude 8.9 earthquake and resulting tsunami, which devastated much of the country's northeastern coast. It was unclear if the eruptions were linked to quake. Japan lies on the "Ring of Fire" - an arc of seismically active zones where earthquake and volcanic eruptions are common. |

ain't it impressive how the japanese people are coping with the chaos of it all? they're not even being dramatic, let alone panicking. i understand staying calm is part of their nature and culture, but their stance over the situation is beyond belief and a lesson to us all |

yes, they definitely are it's still a bit spooky though. there was this man speaking about the tsunami wave destroying his house and not being aware whether his parents were alive or not, yet he was in no state of shock. how's that possible? |
