Oh please. If it weren't for America, you wouldn't have Lady Gaga, Madonna, or Xtina to kick around.
Also, we wouldn't have Lil' Wayne, Miley Cyrus and Jonas Brothers :flirt:

US stars score high in the midweeks

Katy Perry and Eminem are set to top the UK charts this weekend, according to official midweek figures.

Perry's comeback track 'California Gurls', a collaboration with Snoop Dogg, looks set to take the Number One single position, currently knocking Dizzee Rascal and James Corden's World Cup effort 'Shout' down to three.

Eminem's new album 'Recovery' is the Number One album in the midweek figures, knocking Oasis down to Number Two in a good week for the returning rapper. His single 'Not Afraid is at Number Five in the midweeks, while his track 'Love The Way You Lie', featuring vocals from Rihanna, looks set to enter the top ten off the back of the album.

This week’s midweek top five singles are:

1. 'California Gurls' – Katy Perry
2. 'Wavin' Flag' – K'Naan
3. 'Shout' – Shout ft Dizzee and James Corden
4. 'Kickstarts' – Example
5. 'Not Afraid' – Eminem

While the top five albums look like:

1. 'Recovery' – Eminem
2. 'Time Flies: 1994-2009' – Oasis
3. 'Won't Go Quietly' – Example
4. 'Can't Be Tamed' – Miley Cyrus
5. 'The Defamation Of Strickland Banks' – Plan B

But this is only a midweek, doesn't it? I think Miley will be top 3.

Eminem will be able to sell a millions copies during the first week, but he'll start to flop soon. His last album had a good peak in the US and next, it flopped.

Eminem is so so so so seen!

Katy writes her own songs, some of which are fucking brilliant.

Eminem is so 2004.

Does she have a writing credit on CG?

Because it that's the case all she did was replace the lyrics to "Tik Tok" with her own.

Well, the 700,000+ people buying his album the first week in the US alone don't think so.

He made a big musical and cultural impact (gross, I know) so he'll be around for a while.

I don't think so. But didn't she (co-)write most of the songs on One of the Boys? Including Hot N Cold, I Kissed a Girl and Waking Up in Vegas. I really love these.

As for Eminem, it's really surprising that people keep buying his records consistently. I haven't liked any of his albums since The Eminem Show (well, Encore wasn't that bad either).

CG does sound like TiK ToK though :lol2:

Katy Perry's latest single 'California Gurls' has broken a US airplay record.

The song, which is currently at the top of both the US and UK singles charts, has received the most spins on radio over the course of a week ever.

Billboard reports that the track was played 11,816 times last week - an average of 90 plays per station.

The figure beats previous record holders Ke$ha and Lady GaGa, who take second and third position respectively with 'Tik Tok' and 'Bad Romance'.

According to the UK midweek charts, Perry is on course for a second week at number one with the song.

It's very catchy and very, very trashy and brainless. I'm not really a fan of it myself, but I can understand its appeal sadly.

oh, i see. it's just that i think it's so generic even by her own poor standards. at least hot'n'cold had some sort of character - her best song in my opinion.
