Hmm, I'm not so sure. I could be wrong, but I think Roar will fare much better than Applause. I'm not saying Applause is weird or anything, but Roar is much more accessible to the casual singles buyer I reckon.

Her duet with John Mayer from his album:

That Mayer duet has got to be one of the most dull, lifeless songs I have ever heard in my life.

i really don't get the appreciation for the new single. it's boring, dull and generic even when compared to the low standards of the teenage dream era. with the exception of a tiring, yet semi catchy chorus, this song brings absolutely nothing to the game. even if it gets big in america, i really cannot imagine it breaking records internationally. katy's commercial power is way overestimated, she's only as big as her latest hit, i believe this era is gonna be the start of her well deserved decline (or at least i'm hoping for that)

I honestly think you couldn't be more wrong. Roar has 'major smash hit' written all over it.

Mid 90s grunge. CALLED IT

I'm glad they're both back to be honest. After the unrelenting energy of Applause (which I adore obvs) Roar is a nice soothing listen.

Yeah, the snippet didn't exactly light my fire. Still ill wait till I hear the full thing to judge.

Vacuous comment alert: she does look *really* good at the moment, whatever it is she's changed about her hair or makeup or whatever.
she look way better than that ugly bitch lady caca...but from the clips of this roar song it sound awful.... I am actually liking lady caca at the moment...I tried to listen to her first 2 albums but deleted them because they just kinda sucked to me ...but her new song sound FIERCE

Roar is a way better song. There, I said it. Just being true to myself.

As I predicted:

As reported yesterday, after less than two days of airplay, Perry's "Roar" blasted onto the Nielsen BDS-based survey at No. 34. On the building Pop Songs chart, whose tracking week began yesterday (Aug. 12) and runs through Sunday night (18), "Roar" is, as of this posting, already up to No. 16. (Highlights of the finalized chart, including debuts, will post on Billboard.com on Monday, Aug. 19.)

Gaga's "Applause," meanwhile, was released yesterday and has quickly joined "Roar" in the top 20, currently ranking at No. 19 on the building tally.

Pop program directors that are spinning both songs are praising each, although a sample of PDs polled reveals a prediction for greater long-term success for "Roar."

"Both songs have been well-received by our audience, but when it comes to social media, Perry’s 'Roar' has garnered more positive response," says Chase Murphy, PD of KXXM San Antonio. "I think, because of its pop appeal and texture, 'Roar' will probably be embraced by more formats and will eventually be heralded as a bigger song than 'Applause'."

"So far, listeners have favored the Katy track more, but both songs are getting great reaction," KHOP Stockton, Calif., PD MoJoe Roberts largely echoes. "I think the message in 'Roar' is connecting and resonating more with our female listeners."

Katy Perry's basic ass will flop sooner or later. She's nothing special.

I'm afraid that Katy's success is precisely because of the fact that she's so "basic".

I still think "Applause" is a little too odd for the teenagers and Tesco housewives to get behind. The lyrics and vocal delivery of the verses would have them reeling.
