If this had been the US, I wouldn't have been remotely surprised, but the UK? Christ on a f*cking bike! This is utterly pathetic.
The gay kiss in the "Beautiful" video wasn't censored in the US.

If Katy were any kind of Madonna-esque artist she would protest this.

Bloody hell. They show boys getting it on during the morning repeat of "Hollyoaks" ... yet a kiss in a pop video is not acceptable. Enraging!

From Billboard news:

Katy Perry becomes the first female artist in 11 years to take three straight radio singles from an album to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, as "Firework" lifts 2-1. She first topped the chart in June for six weeks with "California Gurls," featuring Snoop Dogg. That was followed by a two-week stay at the top in September with "Teenage Dream," the title track from her former No. 1 Billboard 200 set, which was recently bestowed a Grammy nomination for album of the year.

Monica was the last female to scale the Hot 100 with three consecutive radio cuts from one album, when title cut "The Boy Is Mine," featuring Brandy, "The First Night" and "Angel of Mine" all hit No. 1 between June 1998 and February 1999.
"Firework" is Perry's fourth overall Hot 100 No. 1, as she also led the list for seven weeks in the summer of 2008 with "I Kissed a Girl," her first chart entry.

"Firework's" ascension to No. 1 means that six different songs in the past six weeks have claimed the top Hot 100 ranking, extending a turnover ratio not seen in more than 20 years.

"Firework" sizzles at the top of Digital Songs for a second week with 212,000 downloads (down 9%), according to Nielsen SoundScan, while ranking as the week's top Airplay Gainer with a 12-8 lift on Radio Songs, up 25% to 83.3 million listener impressions, according to Nielsen BDS.

Anyone that says Madonna can't sing needs to watch some Katy Perry performances.

These are just the tip of the FAILberg...

"I Kissed A Girl" live at the 2008 Grammys:

This was the best quality clip of the performance on YouTube, but it cut off the beginning of the performance. As the banana was descending from the ceiling with her in it she let out one of the most hideous notes you'll ever hear. You can hear it under the interference in the beginning of this lower quality clip, listen closely: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wav6K5KftDk

---

"I Kissed A Girl" live on MTV Unplugged:

Yes, she actually thought she could pull that off. Her voice can be manipulated in post-production to fit her trashy music, but she will never be able to carry stylized songs/performances like what she tried in this performance. Also, I think those were the sorriest attempts at high notes in the history of music.

---

"California Gurls" live on the Today Show:

This performance is proof her voice is actually getting worse every year, believe it or not. Her hideous tone, the gasp for air after every syllable, the yelping when she ends a word, the shaky warble in her voice when she moves around, etc. It's all abysmal. It reaches its highest point of FAIL at 2:40. It sounds like someone is stabbing her in the stomach! Oh, and I love when the crowd completely ignores her at 2:45!!!! Take a hint bitch.

Katy Perry has criticised some artists whose music videos use heavy amounts of product placement.

The singer, who recently wrapped shooting the clip for her new single 'E.T', said that despite many acts being forced to endorse products in their videos, it should always be kept to a minimum.

Asked by her tour support act Marina and the Diamonds whether she agreed to the use of placements for a "bigger budget video", Perry tweeted: "Do it [with] style & grace...Not so in ur face like some. U hv to get creative [with] it. Some artists don't care tho, & u can tell."

The 'Teenage Dream' star was later forced to dismiss claims that her comments referred to Britney Spears, who reportedly earned over £300,000 for using website Plenty Of Fish in her clip for 'Hold It Against Me'.

She wrote: "Dear tabloid media aka FILTH: pls note I expressed an overall feeling bout product placement, their roles in vids & the art of them being complimenting or sticking out. Most, if not ALL popstars welcome deals [with] products 2 offset costs of big budget vids in these recessional music industry times.

"I'VE used them in MY vids before & am happy 2b able 2 make a better vid because of. Once AGAIN, stop pitting artists.. against artist for ur sensational satisfaction & stick to what ur best @: lying, gossiping, exaggerating & overall lending a hand 2 the deterioration of a generation."

I agree, it's really silly when you see a brand in a screen so obviously.. you can't take it seriously anymore.

Katy Perry to issue re-release soon?
Katy Perry has allegedly recorded new tracks to include on a re-release of her third album Teenage Dream.

Rihanna let slip last October that the 'Firework' star was to reissue an updated edition of her album and it has now emerged that the new release could be imminent.

A representative for Dr. Luke recently denied rumours that Perry and the producer had fallen out, explaining to The New York Post: "This is ridiculous. They just put the finishing touches on Katy's newest single, which they created together, in February.

"They had a great time, and the single is amazing." He added: "He wishes Katy nothing but continued success and looks forward to working with her again soon."

Katy Perry is due to start the UK leg of her world tour at London's Hammersmith Apollo on March 17.
