Keisha Buchanan is reportedly suing the current Sugababes in an attempt to stop the band from using its name. Buchanan was asked to leave the band last year and was replaced by Jade Ewen. The move meant that none of the original Sugababes members were still involved in the band. According to the Sunday Mirror, Buchanan has now launched a legal bid to claim a stake in the band, which she founded in 1998. The High Court action reportedly demands that the current Sugababes members - Ewen, Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah - either change the group's name or pay her a one-off sum, which could amount to millions of pounds. "This is a landmark case and will send shockwaves through the industry," a source said. "The Sugababes are one of the most successful girlbands of all time, but if they are forced to change their name it would be absolutely disastrous for them. "It would be very hard for them to maintain any credibility if they had no original band members and were called something else. "Keisha was an integral member from the very beginning so it is easy to understand why she is acting like this. She even came up with the band's name with fellow founder member Mutya Buena and deserves something for making the Sugababes what they are today." Range recently claimed that being in the Sugababes was "unbearable" before the lineup change. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/news/a205800/buchanan-sues-over-sugababes-name.html |

This just gets better and better! ![]() Mutya Buena applies for Sugababes ownership Ex-Sugababes member Mutya Buena has applied to own the group's name, it has been confirmed. The star, who left the girlband in 2005, has appealed to the European Trademarks Authority for permission, BBC News reports. Buena recently complained that the name no longer makes sense because none of the original members now remain in the lineup. Buena said at the time: "It just means the Sugababes have ended because there are no original people remaining." It is understood that Kilburn and Strode, the firm that has put forward the application, is "hopeful" that registration will be accepted in the next few months. Sugababes currently consists of Heidi Range, Amelle Berrabah and Jade Ewen. |

Because the band still contained an original member who had as much right to the name as her. There's none of the original line-up left now, hence all this. |

The current Sugababes lineup have denied that there is a dispute over who owns the name of the group. The trio insisted that they have the legal right to use the Sugababes brand after it emerged that founding member Mutya Buena, who quit the group in 2005, has applied for ownership of the name. "Our record company own the name Sugababes," Heidi Range told BBC Newsbeat. "So there's no conversations about who owns the name. "I signed to Universal Records eight and a half years ago with Mutya and Keisha as the Sugababes, so we've still got the name." She added: "I don't know whether it's just the press kicking up a bit of a fuss but nothing that we're aware of." Buena has reportedly asked to the European Trademarks Authority to rule on her case, which is expected to take months. Newest recruit Jade Ewen, who replaced Keisha Buchanan in September, added that she was not surprised by the actions of former members. "It would be nice for it to be a bit more positive but it's to be expected," she said. "We can't even blame anybody for feeling the way they do." Sugababes release new album Sweet 7 on March 15. |

LOVING THIS!!!! Original Sugababes apply for name ownership Thursday, March 4 2010, 14:20 GMT By David Balls, Music Reporter All three original Sugababes members have applied to the European Trademarks Authority for ownership of the group name, it has emerged. The first application was made by Mutya Buena in November, however it was yesterday resubmitted to include Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy. Website Holymoly has obtained papers showing the application by managers acting on behalf the three singers. Donaghy was first to quit the band in 2001, followed by Buena in 2005. Buchanan became the final founding member to leave the group in September 2009. The current lineup, which includes Heidi Range, Amelle Berrabah and Jade Ewen, reportedly only have until May 8 to launch an official opposition. Range yesterday denied that there was a dispute over the name, insisting that Universal Records have ownership of the brand. |

siobhan's departure was quite understandable back in the day, but i will never comprehend why mutya left out of a sudden and without a good excuse. she was the one that opened the pandora's box, leading to this current situation. original sugababes reunited would be an absolute blast, if only for witnessing keisha and siobhan in close distance. |
