That's the only positive I can take from this, that at least she's not tortured anymore. |

Does anyone else find this sort of thing a bit tasteless? Within hours of her death, iTunes have an ad up on their main page flogging her music. It just seems wrong to me somehow.

And the loons have come out in full force. Some motherfucker over on Pulse is going on about how people are "acting like they're aunt died" and saying that she's now being overrated as her musical impact pre-death was no bigger than Aaliyah's.

Aaliyah? The vast majority of people living outside the US barely knew who she was. I'll tell you what's annoying me now, people giving out about the amount of press that Amy's death is receiving, even though 90+ people were killed in Norway. She was a hugely famous figure and a hugely LOVED person. Why the hell shouldn't her death receive a lot of attention? Also, her death was still very much the SECOND lead item on all news broadcasts that I saw yesterday in the UK...and that's her home country. The Norway tragedy was still the top news item. |

I'm normally the first one to be a cynic about those kind of things but I do think that she had not just a lot of genuine fans but a lot of the general public willing her to get better. Most of your average punters had very little time for Pete Docherty (for example) because they couldn't see much evidence of talent but with Amy people did generally have a warmth towards her I think. It's not to say people didn't (or don't continue to) make jokes about her but there was definately also a respect that other 'messed up' celebs didn't get. I couldn't help comparing her to Courtney of course and if she hadn't come out of that really bad patch round about America's Sweetheart I doubt many people bar her hardcore fans would have given a shit. What I mean is - cynical as I am - I do actually think people are genuinely sad. |

Exactly. Very well said. Speaking personally, I was *genuinely* very, very sad. It really stopped me in my tracks. I can't stand drugs and hate to see people using them, and yet I thought she was an adorable girl. I listened to Back To Black nonstop for almost two years. I can't pretend that I knew Amy or even identified with her, but I definitely had a lot of affection for her and I adored her music. Her talent was truly extraordinary. I don't want to drag Adele into this, but Amy actually makes her sound rather ordinary. The soul and emotion in Amy's voice gave me goosebumps. In comparison, Adele is merely a very good singer, but she'll never move me in the way Amy did. I think an awful lot of people feel the way I do about Amy too. It's all just incredibly sad. What happened in Norway is beyond horrific, but that doesn't mean I can't feel sad about Amy too. The world is such a horrible place right now.

I know. It's a stunning album. It was a genuine *instant classic*. I remember downloading it before it was released and loving it. I had hated her before that, but even I had to admit how incredible the new stuff was. UK iTunes 1. Back To Black 3. Frank & Back To Black 4. Back To Black (Deluxe) 6. Frank US iTunes 1. Back To Black 4. Frank 7. Back To Black
