#BEAUTIFUL climbs from #24 to #20 on the Hot 100! The Hot 100's Airplay Gainer award goes to Mariah Carey's "#Beautiful," featuring Miguel, which climbs 24-20 in its second week. The lead single from Carey's forthcoming 13th studio album coasts 44-28 on Radio Songs (42 million, up 33%) and debuts at No. 41 on Streaming Songs (1.5 million, up 223%), although it drops 10-15 on Digital Songs (97,000, down 14%). Carey sang the song as part of a medley of her hits on last Thursday's (16) "American Idol" season finale. |

The song increases by 33% at radio but declines 14% in sales. US radio programmers will never learn when it comes to this woman. |

No one listens to radio anymore, and they need to fill airtime. Who gives a shit, I mean really. Everyone's too busy listening to podcasts and satellite radio. Satellite will break everything down to the nth degree. There will be a Mariah channel before you know it. She's also getting paid every time someone watches that shitty video on Vevo. I have no doubt that programmers are still getting kickbacks somewhere. She's getting AI exposure, so they're probably betting on that. I wonder how much live performances will help sales.

Her vocals were back in fine form with "The Emancipation of Mimi". People were shocked because they heard her doing that whispering Janet shit for so many years. Her vocals are back again now. |

After being lukewarm to this track, it has really really grown on me. If the album turns out to be full of more generic r'n'b shite, I won't be happy. The effect of last week's AI performance will be shown on next week's chart. |

OOps, wrong again Tick Tock! Radio Listenership is Growing (2012 report) The radio ratings service Arbitron released its final audience figures for terrestrial radio stations in 2012, showing this traditional communications medium closed the year with a surge in listeners as bad weather and catastrophes around the country underlined radio’s continuing importance to the American conversation. The new numbers give radio’s proponents more evidence that the listening public still will continue tuning in to the AM/FM dial — despite buzz about the jump of advertisers to social media (as well as online only radio stations and podcasts, like Pandora and the growth of satellite radio). Traditional Radio remains a primary companion to many people and is still the key place Americans go to discover music, their go-to device when Mother Nature pays an angry visit or their solace when stuck in traffic in the car. Despite the advent of social media, Radio’s audience is holding strong and steady year-over-year, with even a slight uptick in 2012. In fact, over 241 million Americans listen to radio every week; that’s more than 92% of the population tuning in consistently on a weekly basis. Surprisingly, the coveted demographic of adults ranging 18 to 34 years, shows the largest gains among the major age brackets, adding more than 600,000 weekly listeners. Radio now reaches nearly 67 million adults aged 18-34 in an average week. Radio listening also remains steady across all other major demographics. Radio reaches nearly 126 million adults aged 18 to 49 and more than 119 million adults aged 25 to 54 in an average calendar week. |

The #1 song at the Pop/Top 40 radio format in the US gets over 80 million audience impressions a week. #1 at Country gets about 35 million. The #1s at AC and Hot AC fluctuate around 15 to 20 million. Hell, even the #1 at Alternative gets over 8 million. The weekly #1s on the Billboard Radio Songs chart, formerly known as Hot 100 Airplay and combines all terrestrial radio airplay in the US, often tops 150 million audience impressions. Radio is bigger than ever. The free option is always going to win, you have to pay for satellite radio and just flipping on your favorite station in the car is easier than getting online on your smartphone and listening to podcasts and shit while driving. Radio isn't going anywhere. |

she's doin just fine. the sales decline was to be expected after her core fanbase rushed to download the single in week 1. radio seems to be embracing it, which means it's gonna stabilize and gradually climb in the following weeks. it's gonna become a genuine hit, the fact the uk is also warming up to it indicates its wide appeal. |

Terrible material perhaps? I bet the label has told her to keep recording 'til there are some hits. She was still recording as of last week, as she booked studio time while she was in Dublin for her concerts. |
