I do really like it, but I'm still very disappointed that she only sings the chorus. I think that's inexcusable on YOUR OWN FUCKING SONG.
i have two words for u

In fairness, even Madonna sang verse on her own song.

oh good old mimi, pretending we're still living in 2004.

that said, the chorus is just lovely. and u know what, this song could make a difference in an rnb scene whose biggest stars are turning to calvin harris, max martin and guetta to get a crossover hit.

bitch is back and retro black :drama:

and i love the fact she's snubbed the verses. she's a DIVA, mind u, she's entitled to build anticipation for her top notch vocal performance and let those rappers do the hard job in between. GENIUS
Good one :rotfl:

Guys, I don't REALLY see any harm with her not singing a verse.
She's no Madonna, she actually was one of the first big stars with 'feat.'

That ugly thang we see is her child. So... I take her as she is. Song is good no matter, with all that rappers.
And she definately compose the melody, what else? I'm getting tired of it though. Maybe it'll be the new Timebomb for me...

Underrated Mimi song #1(of many)

Song: Petals
Album: Rainbow

I've often wondered if there's ever been a perfect family
I've always longed for undividedness and sought stability

A flower taught me how to pray
But as I grew, that flower changed
She started flailing in the wind
Like golden petals scattering

And I miss you dandelion
And even love you
And I wish there was a way
For me to trust you
But it hurts me every time
I try to touch you

But I miss you dandelion
And even love you

I gravitated towards a patriarch
So young predictably
I was resigned to spend my life
With a maze of misery

A boy and a girl befriended me
We bonded through despondency
I stayed so long but finally
I fled to save my sanity

And I miss you little sis and little brother
And I hope you realize I'll always love you
And although you're struggling you will recover
And I miss you little sis and little brother

So many I considered closest to me
Turned on a dime and sold me out dutifully
Although that knife was chipping away at me
They turned their eyes away and went home to sleep

And I missed a lot of life but I'll recover
Though I know you really like to see me suffer
Still I wish that you and I'd forgive each other
'Cause I miss you, Valentine and really loved you

I really loved you
(I guess I loved you)
I tried so hard
But you drove me away
To preserve my sanity

And I found the strength to break away
Fly

I fucking ADORE this song. Major proof of what a talent she can be. The music and vocals are absolutely stunning, but those lyrics are really something. She can come across like such a ditz, but this song is seriously personal and pretty heavy. The first two verses are definitely about her sister who ended up being a junkie with HIV (as far as I know) and selling her story to the press. The 'patriarch' is doubtless Tommy Mottola and the "little sister and brother" she sings about are his teenage children(at the time) who she befriended while married to him.

I've been listening to all her old stuff over the past week and I'd forgotten just how many seriously good songs she's had over the years. She's the butt of soooooo many jokes, but she definitely knows her way around a decent tune!
truth is, mimi is probably the only one of those prime female vocalists that can actually create music instead of having it served on her plate. she's a songwriter and that has been forgotten due to the handling of her image, yet i think this is the key point why she's been in charge of her career for so many years now. deep down, this bitch knows when a tune is good, ultimately she's a musician - make no mistake about that

Absolutely spot-on. I agree 100%! Her persona is that of a dumb broad these days, but she is one *seriously* talented woman.

Usher? Uh...can't think of any more than one decent song he ever did...if that.

Yes that was beautiful and the lyrics... The voice. Wow.. Great. Thanks, I missed it.

But to her performance: i don't like all of that whispering from every corner, i prefered her Voice. Even this song could be sung by her, with the ... Maybe she sings it's the right way. Her song.

I'd like then to put here the one I like too )) it's bitter. She was bitter, not bitter-sweet, like the song you posted, but just bitter. I loved her then. It'll take time cause I don't decide on the song

The more I listen to this, the more frustrated I am though. The chorus is actually pretty fantastic. Some good SUNG verses could have elevated this from a good track to a properly amazing one.

Missed opportunity.

It's not "Clown" is it? She WENT IN on Eminem in that song. One of the classiest putdowns ever commited to record. Another example of what a sublime lyricist she can be.

Song: Clown
Album: Charmbracelet

I should've left it at, how ya doin'
I should've left it at I like your music too, and
I should've never called you back when you pursued me
I should've never given you my fucking an' two way
I should've never listened to your woeful stories
The ones I'm sure you told a thousand times before me
You should've never intimated we were lovers
When you know very well we never even touched each other

Who's gonna love you when it all falls down and
Who's gonna love you when your bankroll runs out?
Who's gonna care when the novelty's over?
When the star of the show isn't you anymore
Nobody cares when the tears of a clown fall down
Nobody cares when the tears of a clown fall down

I gotta break it to ya delicately, dummy
Takin' my G5 twenty minutes wasn't nothin'
But I guess you wouldn't know that's the way I roll
Consequently now your ego's fully overblown
You don't want the world to know that you're just a puppet show
And the little boy inside often sits at home alone
And cries, cries, cries, cries

Who's gonna love you when it all falls down and
Who's gonna love you when your bankroll runs out?
Who's gonna care when the novelty's over?
When the star of the show isn't you anymore
Nobody

Your pain is so deep rooted
What will your life become?
Lost and lonesome
Still just a frail shook one

Who's gonna love you when it all falls down and
Who's gonna love you when your bankroll runs out?
Who's gonna care when the novelty's over?
When the star of the show isn't you anymore
Nobody cares when the tears of a clown fall down
Nobody cares when the tears of a clown fall down

Who's gonna love you when it all falls down and
Who's gonna love you when your bankroll runs out?

Billboard: Mariah Carey Debuts 'Triumphant (Get 'Em)' Single; Talks Upcoming Album

Three years after the release of her last non-holiday full-length opus, "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel," Mariah Carey returns with her first single, "Triumphant (Get 'Em)" featuring Rick Ross and Meek Mill.

"Working with Ross and Meek on the same record was incredible," Mariah Carey told media on a conference call today (August 2). "Obviously Ross is a star and everybody loves him. I'm a fan of his music. I really, really wanted to work with him. I love the tone of his voice. I think the contrast of his voice and mine would be something special. I always like to do collaborations that people might think are different."

"Meek adds an excitement, a newness to the record that is pretty rare right now," Mariah continued.

"Triumphant," which Randy Jackson chimed in to say is "inspirational," is the first single off Mariah's 14th studio album. The singer touched on the untitled album while on the call. "I'm collaborating with a lot of my favorite people but the main thing is [that] I'm not trying to follow any particular trend," she said. "I want it to be well received. I want to stay true to myself and the music that I love and make the fans happy."

Mariah also spoke on how she felt of the current state of R&B and its mainstream cross-over, saying "It would be incredible if we can bring back the days where R&B songs didn't have to cross over. It makes me sad that there are so many talented R&B artists that don't get the chance that they should."
