Del Rey's "Beach" blasts in at No. 7 on the Hot 100, launching at No. 1 on Digital Songs with 248,000 sold to become her first Digital Songs No. 1 (and score the alt-pop singer-songwriter her best sales week for a download). The cut also drew 2.4 million streams in its first week of availability; with its official video having premiered Aug. 13, it should grow in streams following a full first week of clicks, to be reflected on next week's charts.

"Beach" starts as the Hot 100's second-highest debut of 2015; only One Direction's "Drag Me Down" made a grander entrance, arriving at No. 3 last week. (This week, "Drag" plummets to No. 27, down by 82 percent to 63,000 sold after its highly-anticipated 350,000-unit debut last week.) Del Rey instantly adds her second Hot 100 top 10, following "Summertime Sadness" (with Cedric Gervais), which reached No. 6 in September 2013.

"Beach" previews Del Rey's third full-length studio album (Honeymoon, arriving arrive Sept. 18). "Honeymoon" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks chart dated Aug. 1.

a top 10 entry on the hot 100 is a huge feat considering the lack of any radio support. that was totally unexpected but definitely well deserved.

Selling over 200,000 downloads of a song in a week is an achievement nowadays, good on her.

Jesus, Billboard has really gone down the tubes, hasn't it?

UPDATED Aug. 18, 2:15 p.m.: This story has been updated to reflect new chart data, which was reprocessed by Nielsen Music following the story's original Monday posting. As a result, Lana Del Rey's "High By the Beach" debuts at No. 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 instead of No. 7. On Digital Songs, it debuts at No. 10 instead of No. 1, with 67,000 sold, instead of 248,000, as originally reported. The information below has been updated to reflect corrected data.

and this is how the most prestigious chart institution loses its last traces of reliability. how on earth did they allow for this fuck up to happen? the top 10 debut seemed a bit strange and unexpected to all of us even though we're not employed by the magazine. surely their staff and those in charge of handling billboard's twitter could have just shut up and double check all data in question before publicizing such news.

what a travesty, really. it's one thing to falsely predict a number one position for an artist that ends up in, say, the top 3 and it's another to bring news of a record managing top 10 when in reality hasn't even made the top half of the hot 100.

How exactly could they have been off by 181,000 downloads?

So plain and a poor layout, and it's too heavy handed of a L.A. reference.
