Also, here is the Beyonce/Jay Z duet from the Jay Z album that is absolutely gorgeous and could fit nicely on Beyoncé

update:

Beyoncé's surprise new release is the fastest-selling album on iTunes ever

Beyoncé's surprise album release on iTunes this past Friday has, unsurprisingly, been a huge hit. Apple just announced that the self-titled video and song collection sold a whopping 828,773 copies in only three days, making it the fastest-selling album on iTunes ever. 617,213 copies were sold in the US. According to BIllboard, it will be the top-selling album of the week — even though it was only available for a few days and only on iTunes. In addition to it being the biggest album debut for iTunes, the huge sales of Beyoncé's latest also represent her biggest debut week ever.

Initially, the set of 14 songs and 17 music videos was sold as a complete package without the ability to download individual songs, something that marks a huge change from the typical iTunes model. However, Apple says consumers will be able to purchase individual songs starting on December 20th. It appears that the iTunes exclusive will expire on December 20th, as well — though it's still not clear if the album will hit streaming services like Spotify or if it will only be available for purchase from other digital stores like Google Play and Amazon.

Seeing how successful Eminem was despite being a disgusting homophobe, I'm glad Beyonce -- a feminist -- is doing so well right now.

Beyonce's surprise album shatters iTunes sales records
By Ray Rahman on Dec 16, 2013 at 1:38PM @rayrahman

Well, that was fast: The sales of that new Beyoncé album that came out last Friday has already broken an iTunes record or two, Apple has announced.

The singer’s self-titled “visual album” — which, of course, was available exclusively on iTunes — sold a ridiculous 828,773 copie in just three days, making it the music platform’s fastest selling album ever. The release also broke the U.S. first-week album sales record, with 617,213 units sold in America.

That shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, though: in addition to being sold only on iTunes, there are no a la carte singles or digital downloads; fans either have to purchase the whole thing or go on living their lives without new Beyoncé music, a fate that was clearly too unthinkable for many.

Apple reports that the album has gone to No. 1 in 104 countries, which, by the U.S. State Department’s count, is the majority of the world. All of this amounts to Bey’s biggest sales week ever, which will easily give her the No. 1 slot on this week’s Billboard albums chart.

This will be her fifth straight debut atop the chart. The numbers will also make her the highest-debuting female artist this year, far outpacing the next contender, Katy Perry, whose Prism debuted with 286,000. The last lady musician to gin up sales this big was Taylor Swift, whose Red sold 1.2 million in its first week in November 2012.

I'm glad that its selling well because it is one of the best albums that was released this year. But I can never really take Beyonce seriously when she's preaching about feminism.
Her idea about feminism doesn't really go beyond her wanting to make as much money as male singers... I mean her biggest hit was the most anti-feminist song in recent years... "Pull me into your arms, say I'm not the one you own" / "cause if you like it, then you shoulda put a ring on it" :lol2:

Those sales figures are *huge*. I guess that's conclusive proof of the album's high quality, right?

By the way, what are the best tracks that people are enjoying? The only ones I can get my head around are XO, Blow and Haunted. I don't love them, but I like(ish) them.

What are other peoples' favourites?

this album keeps on unveiling itself with every listen. i'm not sure i like it more than 4, which is my fave bey album, but i do enjoy listening to it from start to finish and that's evidence of a set of songs i'm at least curious investigating further and further.

she's definitely moving away from the pop format and embracing purer and more perplex rnb song structures and melodies. it's a more difficult sound to digest immediately but it does feel like the right path for her to follow.

to my ears, xo is the definite standout hit on that set - morelike her new halo. other than that, i'm also enjoying mine, superpower, blow and drunk in love among a few others. may i admit i'm VERY impressed of what she's delivered.

Target Won't Sell Beyonce's New Album… But Walmart will. Here's why

While Beyonce's new fast-selling self-titled album is sure to be on many Christmas wish lists, there's at least one major retailer that's opting not to sell the album: Target.

"At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections," Target spokesperson Erica Julkowski tells Billboard.

She continues, "While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyonce in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyonce's new self-titled album 'Beyonce.'"

Columbia Records released "Beyonce" at 12 a.m. EST on the morning of Friday, Dec. 13, exclusively via iTunes without any pre-release announcement. They are the exclusive seller of the album through at least Dec. 18, when some brick-and-mortar retailers in the U.S. could begin to receive copies of the album.

Most physical retailers will receive it by Friday, Dec. 20. It is understood that the album will not have any additional bonus or exclusive content, for any retailer.

Beyonce has previously worked with Target to give the retailer exclusive editions of her albums. Her last studio release, 2011's "4," had a version exclusive to Target that came with six additional tracks. She also starred in a TV commercial for the retailer, where the singer can be heard saying "I put so much into my new album, and only Target gives you all of it."

Billboard estimates that iTunes is the largest seller of music in the U.S., with about a 41% share of the market in 2012. Walmart had 10%, while Amazon (9%) and Target (5%) were the third and fourth-largest sellers, respectively.

However, another major retailer, Walmart, will be carrying "Beyonce" -- and it should be in their stores by the end of the week.

Walmart is "happy to be able to carry her album and support all physical music," says Walmart spokesperson Sarah McKinney. (As per Walmart's long-standing policy, they will only carry the non-explicit version of "Beyonce.")

"Beyonce" set sales records in the iTunes Store after only three days on sale. According to iTunes and Columbia Records, Beyonce's record label, the album sold 617,000 copies in the U.S. and 828,773 total worldwide through Sunday night (Dec. 15). That marks both the largest single week ever in both the U.S. iTunes Store, and, the fastest-selling album worldwide in the iTunes Store.

I can see where they're coming from, but ultimately it's they who'll lose it. Seems like a very strange business decision.

the fact the physical copy will most probably include a dvd of all videos is quite of a strong initiative to purchase it even by people who've already bought the itunes version or proceeded in illegally downloading it. their decision just indicates a part of traditional music retailers are still clueless in coming to terms with the digital revolution.

I genuinely do not see where they're coming from. Even if it was made available digitally, surely it's better to get SOME money from people who want it than no money at all? With Christmas next week surely many many people will go for the physical?
