The album isn't weak at all - it has 5 or 6 singles on it - easy. I haven't even listed to it fully but the first 4 tracks and we all want the same thing (or whatever its called) could easily be very big hits.

I think the fact that she's releasing so much stuff - most of which is very high quality is great. '

while some of u would disagree, i trace signs of dignity to the fact she's fast releasing brand new albums instead of repackaging old material with the inclusion of a handful of strong songs. instead of forcing her fans to buy music they already own for the sake of some new hits, she's providing the hits along with new material that some like, some don't. why should she be criticized for that?
Because it's simply not very good.

Oh come on. "High quality"? That really depends on what you expect from your music. Personally, I expect a lot more than she has delivered on this album. Two cracking songs does not a "high quality" album make.

I think it is high quality fun pop music -she had an attractive voice and is physically alluring - personality wise she is ...a bit non -descript (she is also very young).

I think out of the current crop of young female pop stars she is out in the lead - I think she has over taken gaga.....which is a surprise ...[I think gaga over hyped her last album which although good is not as good as the Fame Monster - and hasnt lived up to the hype - this has hurt her reputation and lost her fans)

Rihanna has never pretended to be anything she wasn't...but keeps releasing very very good pop songs - rude boy, only girl, I found love etc etc

having warmed up to the second single which i originally hated, i begin to suspect riri has the extraordinary gift of turning even a weak/lame/mediocre song into something sounding enjoyable at least. and yes, i do agree she has eclipsed gaga at this point, although that's more to do with gaga messing it up than riri upping her game.

I agree with that too. It just seems that Gaga is met with a collective GROAN at this point while Riri still feels fresh and exciting.

In terms of charts and sales, Rihanna is stomping over GaGa for sure. In terms of everything else, GaGa shits all over her from a great height.

I *really* hope that nobody in here is trying to say that Rihanna's generic, cookie-cutter, production line, throwaway pop fluff is superior to GaGa's output? That really would be beyond silly.

Yes, Rihanna is having #1 singles everywhere. So f*cking what??? I'm interested in quality music, not chart-topping music for kids and/or the easily pleased.

Isn't it a bit worrying that Riri has been in the business since 2005 and yet she's stomping all over Gaga who came out in 2008 and until recently was the hottest thing ever? Gaga is slowing down at a worrying pace. I'm worried she will end up being a Cyndi Lauper after all.

I think that's fairly unlikely, but even if that did happen...would that be so dreadful? Even Lauper manages to crank out albums. If GaGa continues to make great pop music, I'll be happy.

I also think all this "GaGa is on the way out" talk is hilariously overdramatic. Her album is the second-biggest selling album released in 2011 and will probably end up matching the sales of The Fame and The Fame Monster, at approximately 8-10 million sold each. That's not the sign of an artist in trouble. She simply isn't the "cool new artist" anymore. She never will be again. Pop is also in a pretty dodgy place at the moment, where overly simplistic, generic songs seem to be very much in vogue. The more musically sophisticated a song, the less chance it has of appealing to the singles buyers of today. That's fine, it's just the phase we're in at the moment.

GaGa has nothing to worry about. She's way too talented, ambitious and savvy.

Preposterous. Gaga and Rihanna are two different people. They are adored separately. You can't put them in the same category.

People will flock to see Gaga, than see Rihanna stand and sing. Not hating on Rihanna mind you, but Rihanna is just not the same culture phenomenon that Gaga is. Rihanna cannot sell out random shit like Gaga can. No one is going to buy a book made by Rihanna, or anything else for that matter. Rihanna still can't get a #1 album.

Indeed. Surely most people can see that Rihanna is nothing but a pretty(ish) face to front the work of other people. The quintessential pop puppet. She doesn't even do it that well really, seeing as she is completely unable to dance or string a coherent sentence together.

At least she's dedicated though. That's more than I can say for a lot of people. She really works hard for her job, and knows fashion, and who to work with.

Well she's told who to work with, but yeah she works hard at promoting the albums that are made for her to record.

She's no fashion icon.
