Pon De Replay feels like it was out in 1996. Can't believe it's only been six years.
What??? I would have sworn that was about 10 years ago!

well, i find this a pleasant departure from the high prolific dance/rnb sound her last two albums manipulated to the extend of overkill. yes, it's not an instant killer of a hit, but somehow it works and ticks all boxes. and it's written by sia whom i just love. and it's pure pop - the last thing the world would need right now is another riri club banger. save that for next year's comeback single.

Oh Sia wrote it, did she? That explains a lot. I find her to be a competent songwriter, but wildly overrated. I investigated her last couple of solo albums a while ago and was very underwhelmed. I've nothing against the woman, I just don't think she's a particularly great songwriter.

She'll have a good greatest hits collection someday alright. They're all so utterly throwaway and fluffy though. It's not going to be an amazing collection like other divas have had.
In terms of a Rihanna GH - I can only think of one other female popstar having a superior collection of popsongs - That being the Immaculate Collection.

I don't think they're fit to even be mentioned in the same breath. Do you? The Immaculate Collection was a collection of utterly massive, groundbreaking, classic, iconic, era-defining pop songs which displayed huge artistic growth and growing maturity. Rihanna's hits album will be just that...a collection of hits...written by other people.

As for other female popstars, even Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey's collections make a mockery of anything Rihanna will ever release.

I just named two: Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Even Beyonce has made better songs than Rihanna.

I genuinely couldn't even hum half of those Rihanna songs you listed. Too many vapid, so-so singles, especially early on. Every single song on The Immaculate Collection was a stone cold classic, and she even had to leave off some that would also fit that title.

Listen, if you consider Rihanna some some sort of great artist, good luck to you. We clearly have different ideas on what constitutes truly great music. I'm happy for you that you're so easily impressed with her output. Some of us look for a lot more in the music we listen to.

well, i think sia's a very talented songwriter, even though not a consistent one, i do agree with that. however, i prefer her pure pop melodies than what the likes of numerous A list contracted composers bring to the game for the majority of today's prime popstars. for some reason, i find her songwriting pretty classy compared to what's out there.

I do agree that she has written some very good songs. I just don't think this is one of them. It sounds very basic.

a bee greatest hits collection would shit all over riri's. rihanna may get a hit every month or so, yet bee's hits are far more genuine and memorable. and that's a fact.

Exactly. Beyonce's big hits are genuine classics. They ooze quality. Yes, she has released some dodgy singles, but a few of them are utterly stunning. Rihanna...not so much.

I think Beyonce is a great popstar and excellent performer...

But like Rihanna she releases patchy inconsistent albums

However to say her output shit all over Rihannas in terms of classic pop hits is....I disagree

beyonce's latest album was anything but patchy. and she should be credited for staying loyal to her genre rather than jumping into the current dance/pop bandwagon her fellow rnb stars have succumbed to.

anyway, i'm pretty sure more people still remember the majority of beyonce's smaller hits than those of rihanna's. and that makes all the difference when comparing their chart relevance.

I disagree - Beyonce will be remembered for Crazy in Love and Singe Ladies
I think most of her smaller hits have already been forgotten

We're clearly all jealous of Rihanna's prowess as a singer and songwriter
