this discussion offends me.
ever since christmas, i haven't been paid a euro out of my salary. it's been a mutual decision between my boss and me - we've turned to a family anyway, we're sticking to each other no matter what. we do not want this business to close just like thousands others beforehand.
greece has been part of the euro for the past decade. was there anyone accusing greece up to the point the recession took off? i think not. we were taking advantage of the euro structure just like every other eurozone country. was that wise? surely not, we greeks as a nation have a responsibility because we got to spend way more than we were entitled to do so.
still, we acted according to the boundaries and rules of the eurozone. we got the same rules, we thought we'd be as strong as the germans or the french, it appears that was not the case.
so u all people hating all greeks for what cause really? are we that freaked out? i'm ashamed we've come to this, yet also i'm ashamed the europeans care shit about us. it really is disheartening. does anyone care about us? probably not
I can only speak for myself and my country, but people over here are incredibly sympathetic with the plight of Greece. One of our own asshole ministers made a pathetic joke about Greece a couple of weeks ago and he was *vilified* for it. Most people here think it's disgusting what's happening to Greece and can't believe the attitude of Europe. I doubt the same view is held in Germany, France etc, but Irish people are definitely on the side of the Greek people. Have no doubt about that.
oh, i'm pretty sure the irish feel sympathetic over the greek issue and that goes vice versa - not that the greeks think ireland is in the same lame position as our own country, but nobody over here felt pleased when ireland was bailed out, we were more like wtf, not them, too. it's not coincidental that we refer to the irish as the greeks of the north, it's more to do with the fact the irish think and act a bit like us - more open-hearted and sentimental. i've mentioned this before. europe would have been a lot different had the anglophone countries, mainly the uk, were in charge of decisions within the union. and that's because they got to establish modern democracy and their politics are far more realistic and flexible. as for u ticktock, i'm not even gonna bother starting an argument. it seems u've made up your mind regarding the identity of the greeks. still, such an irony u blame them for the rise of a neo nazi/fascist movement which i strongly disapprove when in fact similar recession crises in history only confirm that was inevitable to happen - it would have happened anywhere under similar circumstances. yourself couldn't have been perceived as more racist stating your theory about greeks being lazy, thieves and only capable of prostitution. in that case, please do stop by our shithole of a place within summer, we'd love to fuck u and take your money.
