http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/09/doug-pitt-defends-mothers-anti-gay-letter_n_1659258.html?ref=topbar Doug Pitt, Brad Pitt's Brother, Defends Mother Jane Pitt's Anti-Gay Letter To Editor As far as the Pitt family is concerned, it's usually Brad Pitt who makes headlines. But last week that changed when Jane Pitt, Brad's mother, penned an anti-gay, anti-Obama letter to Missouri's Springfield News-Leader. In the op-ed, Jane Pitt wrote in part: "Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney’s opponent, Barack Hussein Obama -- a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright’s church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage." The paper initially claimed the woman was not related to the actor but hours later confirmed that it was in fact Pitt's mother. Reactions from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community ranged from anger to surprise, as Brad Pitt has a long history of voicing his support for LGBT rights. The famous actor hasn't commented on his mother's recent civic opining, but another Pitt -- Brad's younger brother Doug -- is now speaking out on the controversy. During an appearance on NBC's "Today" to promote his new Virgin Mobile ad campaign, Doug Pitt told Matt Lauer: "Moms and dads and kids agree to disagree all over the world, so why would our family be any different?... There can be healthy discussion when people disagree with you, and I think there should be. The bad thing is when it turns into venom and negativity and we don’t have that in our family. It’s open discussion, we can learn from each other … maybe you learn something.” |

Yep. She said she didn't know if she was voting for McCain or Obama in 2008, and one of her idols is Ayn Rand. |

The truly sad thing is that she represents about 50-60% of US population. |

It really depends on the area, Anastasia. For example, I live in New England, the Northeast of U.S. and it's very liberal. U.S. is too diverse, you really can't generalize. Edited by Vancho, Jul 12 2012, 08:58 PM.

You can get a sense of the US by opinion polls. America is a very Conservative country. The majority doesn't believe in Evolution. |

Some of my best friends are totally committed to the idea of god, but are equally committed to equality. Your broad strokes "rationale" is even more idiotic because you're passing yourself off as the "enlightened" one. |

Well I'm a Creationist myself, but I'm all for gays and gay marriage A lot of religious people are open-minded about this issue actually, it's only a stereotype that religious means anti-gay.

A June 6 CNN/ORC International poll showed that a majority of Americans support same-sex marriage being legalized at 54%, while 42% are opposed.[wiki] i was wrong. This 54% is a great result. She represents the minority now!!!!! |

Voters are different, and you must go state by state. You also have to look at how the poll question was worded as well. They're still going to put the issue on ballots come November. This is unconstitutional, but they're still getting away with it. The most positive thing is that the Obama Administration is not defending DOMA, and they removed DADT. Obama also signed the Matthew Sheppard Act. Republicans, once in power, want to overturn all of this. How far they'll be able to get, who knows? But Romney has made his aim loud and clear: he wants gay stripped of everything! He signed NOM's pledge. He's such a little shit, he'll do anything to get elected and do whatever it takes to make his Party love him if put into office. He doesn't give a shit! He'd put all his LDS wackos into the White House as well - they were heavily behind the Prop. 8 campaign, funneling money. Marriage equality needs to go to the Supreme Court, and Obama must be reelected to put forth a judge who isn't a Right wing wack job. The Supreme Court is one member away from being a full Right-wing majority. The health care bill got through because one Conservative defected. America is still an extremely backwards place. We should have let the South secede a long time ago! They cry over corporations, and then hate unions. Then they're for trickle-down economics, or Reagan's voodoo economics. They hate communism, but shop at Wal-mart. Americans are not bright, and they buy into the "We're #1" crap, and hate everything outside of the country. Most Americans haven't set foot outside of it. It's no wonder Bush was elected twice. |
