Indeed. The very idea of pulling the film because of this is beyond ludicrous. Just because ONE nutjob decided to vent his madness at a screening of The Dark Knight Rises, does not mean the film should be affected in any way. This dreadful event has nothing whatsoever to do with the film itself.

300 people died in Syria yesterday. In ONE day. We can't just stop going about our lives because of evil scum.
It's really hard to say, but maybe those Syrians have a little choice. Like move for a month or so into the montains where noone lives, and no war, and be more safe.

Those people in the cinema has no choice. I just wanted to point out that difference. It's questionable, I know.

yes, those people massacred within the theater had no choice whatsoever, yet in the wider picture, american society does have a choice to prevent such incidents: just stop selling guns to everyone as if they're bottles of milk. if americans do not wish to set some proper standards when it comes to weapon ownership, then they should stop acting shocked everytime such a tragedy takes place.

The asshole legally purchased over 3,000 rounds of ammo.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Nothing will ever change so long as the prevailing attitude seems to be "I'll give up my gun when everyone else gives up theirs". :manson:

Christian Bale on Shooting Victims: 'My Heart Goes Out to Them'

The star of "The Dark Knight Rises" issued a statement Saturday offering his condolences to the victims and their loved ones.

Christian Bale has added his condolences to the growing list of statements made by cast and crew members associated with The Dark Knight Rises in the wake of Thursday’s shooting in Colorado.

“Words cannot express the horror that I feel,” Bale said in a statement. “I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them.”

At a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado, a young man opened fire on the crowd, killing 12 and injuring at least 50 more. (Final numbers have not yet been made available.) Warner Bros. has since canceled premieres and press opportunities around the world, and announced that in respect for the victims of the shooting, the studio would not release box office numbers for the film until Monday.

Bale’s statement follows one from Christopher Nolan, where the writer-director of the film said, "Nothing any of us can say could ever adequately express our feelings for the innocent victims of this appalling crime, but our thoughts are with them and their families."

Anne Hathaway:

"My heart aches and breaks for the lives taken and altered by this unfathomably senseless act. I am at a loss for words how to express my sorrow. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families."

Now some people over here want WB to give a share of the box office grosses to the victim's families.

Americans couldn't be more exploitative.

Seriously? That is unbe-fucking-lievable. As if any of this is somehow the fault of Warner Brothers. Fucking hell.

The studios didn't release any box office figures this weekend, but the projection is an incredibly disappointing $160 million for TDKR. That's *barely* more than what the last film did from less theaters, less screens, and without adjusting for 4 years of ticket price inflation. It was on track to do at least $25 million more than that based on it's Friday midnight grosses. It's amazing how the media can use its fear-mongering to turn the most anticipated movie of the year in to a pseudo-pariah in a matter of hours.

Are you really upset that WB execs won't line their pockets with $25 million more? What happened wasn't the movie's fault obviously but I don't think Warners are the ones we should be shedding a tear for at this moment. The movie will be a monumental hit anyway.

Nothing big is being released for the next few weeks anyway, so when the shooting thing dies down, the Bat movie will no doubt recover.

Still doesn't change the fact(for me) that it's not a very good film though.

Apparently some places in the US are now banning Batman and Joker costumes. Clearly it was costumes that killed those poor people, not firearms.

It's not that, the media's influence is the problem.

Reading some of the NRA and gun lobby reactions to this is appalling and truly despicable. I really abhor the US gun culture.

Heston and his NRA cronies showing up in Columbine still trumps this though. The mayor and city council of Columbine literally asked them to stay away, but they came anyway. If you ever want your blood to boil, watch the video of Heston's speech.

That awkward moment when a Colorado suburbanite is more attractive than your Hollywood actor self.
