Incredible when you think that the biggest new release so far this year has sold 730k in TOTAL.

what with all u raving about this, i'm actually tempted to give it a try.
It's ultimately just pop fluff, but it's just done so, so well. The songs are so well crafted and addictive!

So I played the whole album few times, but I'm still not hooked. I can see why they released 'Shake It Off' as the first single, it's the only thing that sounds like a sure hit.
She's a pretty decent songwriter, but nothing really stands out, nothing I can imagine wanting to play in a year or two... or next month :chuckle:

On the contrary, I think it's littered with potential singles. It's almost too catchy.

The comparisons with Like A Prayer are as ludicrous as they are hilarious though.

From Billboard:

As the days tick by, the sales forecast for Taylor Swift's 1989 album continues to grow.

As of Nov. 1, with only one full day left in the album's debut tracking week, industry forecasters now say 1989 could sell over 1.3 million copies through Nov. 2.

Thus, the album is now aiming to surpass the one-week sales record for an album by a woman, set by the debut of Britney Spears' Oops! … I Did It Again in 2000, when it arrived with 1.319 million, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

After all these glowing reviews, I'll give the album a try. I don't expect much though. The world's fascination with this girl is still beyond me. Her music isn't terrible, but I think it's largely unimpressive (in part due to her extra regular voice). Nothing she's ever recorded has been groundbreaking.

The bit that always holds me back from really loving her stuff is, as you say, that very, very ordinary voice. It has zero grit or character.

Love it! the song, the video, everything she's wearing, the whole package.
I don't think we've seen a greedy bitch like this, that's so completely in control, since Madonna.

She's doing everything so, so right. Everything about her campaign is on point.

those sales numbers are insane! she should easily pass 4m, even 5m by the end of the christmas holidays season. imagine what her sales would be like if she were this big even just five years ago...

as in the issue of her and her music, i can understand the reasons of her broad appeal. she's this very likable girl with great looks and yet acting quite down to earth thus making the masses feel related to her. yes, she seems quite talented as i get she plays part of the songwriting process, yet her voice is pretty much ordinary and indistinguishable, song structures and production are no different to what the likes of katy perry deliver (haven't paid much attention to lyrics as they could be vastly superior to the model just described) and, well, i might be too old to appreciate what the youngsters of today are into, but then i also feel there's more space for her to evolve in the future than, say, britney or katy perry.

her new video pretty much epitomizes what i'm trying to say. it's impressively filmed and perfectly executed overall, but to me herself is the weakest link of this blockbuster genius plan to impose her as this global pop star. nothing about her charisma screams convincing, all conquering pop star quality to my ears and eyes.
