These uber producers and writers have been behind some of the best pop singles of the last ten years.

I discovered this fantoosh little example of "glamour pop" recently. It came out in 2010, and didn't even make the Top 100. :(

I honestly didn't see this thread until now! I'd have been the first to sign it! They've had some misses over the years, but they've also cranked out dozens of utterly glorious pop songs too. Girls Aloud's greatest hits is a fine example of that. I also loved their work on Pet Shop Boys' "Yes." album, and lots of their other stuff too.

I don't think much of that Mini Viva song I'm afraid. Sorry! I did love "Left My Heart In Tokyo" though and "I Wish" was cute too.

Phew! Thank Christ for that. Yeah, "One Touch" is uber gay but (bobbins verses aside) I love it. That "Hips. Lips. Fashion status." bit sounds like a Pet Shop Boys interlude, which makes sense, as I assume they were working on "Yes" at the same time.

Actually, one of the Mini Viva singers, Britt Love, has released a track that takes "inspiration" from a certain track Madge fans would recognise.

they're a genius songwriting team alright.
it was fascinating to read a piece on q magazine some years ago on how they conceive and develop their music. they regard themselves as a hit factory and i see nothing wrong with that as long as they come up with fine pop tunes. girls aloud are their greatest accomplishment by far.

Yeah, I remember that piece, FB. They seemed set for world domination then. But it all rather flattened a bit: the likes of Mini Viva and Alex Gardner flopping; sessions with Franz Ferdinand and New Order proving fruitless ...

i take it they just went too big for their own shoes. instead of trying to break their own acts, they should have stuck with delivering the goods for top players in the pop business.

the franz ferdinand fiasco just proved they were taking a wrong path back in the day. yes, they were praised by pop critics like no other production team, yet it's never a sign of longevity when the hipster community attempts to squeeze any juice of talent deriving from the mainstream.

The Q article: http://xenomanianews.blogspot.co.uk/2009/09/xenomania-x-factor-q-magazine-october.html

Quite interesting reading it back now.
