"Billboard crowned me #1 top 40 artist of the decade just 7 years into this!!" Rihanna tweeted. "My fans just majorly s**t on ur existence. #HistoRIH."

Pink landed in second place, while Britney Spears followed at three and Kelly Clarkson at four.

Katy Perry, Beyoncé, Lady GaGa and Chris Brown are among the other names to feature in Billboard's Top 40 Pop Songs Chart artists of the past two decades.

this list is ridiculous only for the reason it takes into consideration chart success of the past two decades.

i mean, kelly clarkson ranked higher than mimi?
pink more successful than britney?
katy perry bigger than janet, madge, even christina?

what nonsense

It seems like a fairly pointless chart alright.

They're not hiding any methods or trying to make a greater point. This is based solely on artist chart histories on the weekly Billboard chart for the Top 40 radio format in the US over the last 20 years. This is no different than the Top Hot 100 Artists lists.

This is a BILLBOARD ranking based on one of BILLBOARD's charts to celebrate it's 20th anniversary, why would they consider anything else?

Britney had middling success at US radio between her early years and Circus, Pink blows her out of the water at Pop radio.

This chart missed Mimi's first 5+ singles and many of her releases were not aimed at Pop, Kelly has the better chart history.

Katy had 8 consecutive smashes at Pop radio NOT counting the 4 singles from her debut, far more Pop play than Madonna, Janet or Xtincta.
