Indeed. The promo/marketing for this album has been phenomenal.

I have such high hopes for the volume 2, it just has to be better than the first one!
It's probably gonna be worse. Surely after so many years, he'd came back with his very best album? I imagine the stuff on Vol.2 would be inferior.
only vol 1 came out in late march whereas vol 2 is scheduled for a release in a far more competitive market season. it's way easier for a superstar to make an impact with a new set launched during spring rather than in autumn. less we not forget his last album happened almost seven years ago, that's quite a time gap to justify his label's will in testing the waters without worrying about serious chart rivalries. by no means am i suggesting vol 2 will turn out to be the better album, but i definitely think the mainstream/ poppier material is intentionally delayed for a number of good reasons.
Hope so!

Yeah, it's a bit weird that a decent-but-hardly-brilliant album should open with such big numbers. It's a perfect example of how to roll out an album though.
I think Justin tapped into adult (Adele-friendly) audiences with this one. The music is sufficiently bland and his Robin Thicke makeover surely helped.

Adult-targeting by big stars is a good sign in pop I hope.
Now even youngsters release ballads as lead singles.

Not so much of a good sign is the resurrection of mid-00's RnB. It couldn't became a retro in 5-7 years to recall it as 'retro sound'. Its just lack of ideas.

While Timbalands production is unmistakable, I don't think he's copying his own sound like he did on Hard Candy. This definitely sounds more polished and timeless.

Oh God yeah. The production on this is VASTLY superior to anything on Hard Candy. It's clear that a lot of time, care and attention was taken on this album. The way Madonna rushes her albums these days, we're never going to get any decent production really.

Yeah, the production is really great. I love this album a lot, but I'm not sure if I would be listening to this in months to come, tbh.

I still love pop more, and if I want RnB (which is not very often), I'd rather use other artists with big voices. His voice maybe the biggest issue for me on this album, don't like it.

I agree there. His falsetto is really grating, especially live. Newsflash JT, Prince or MJ you are not.

I have no issues with his voice at all. I think he's very good, even live. We're not talking Katy Perry or Britney level here.

He can carry a tune and sounds nice in recording but in some cases his live voice can be very irritating. I would put him alongside Rihanna.

Nah. If she even slightly moves around, she goes off-key. JT is a vastly superior vocalist.

huge second week sales. a 65% decline is great news showing the album might have legs in the long run. needless to say this will pass the two million mark in short notice, it may even have a chance of nearing 3 million sales by the end of its course.

Was watching Justin at the Jimmy Fallon show. He is such an incredible performer, I never gave him much credit before but I had to change my mind. He pulls it off so naturally, almost without effort
He can sing and play and dance, all of this without looking like a try-hard

It makes Lady gaga look even more over-hyped than she actually is

Justin is the better dancer but his musicianship is no better than Gaga's piano playing and he would not be able to keep up with her vocally on stage. She can belt and has vocal power that he simply doesn't. Justin has a hard time projecting anything even remotely resembling a belt.

They have a different singing style, Gaga is a stronger singer than most people out there. That's her true talent, I personally don't see any other talent in her, beside her personal sense of style which you can love or hate.
Justin is more complete, he can pull a jaw-dropping performance without apparent effort, no try-hard dancing, no excessive looks. But the guy has incredible stage presence, he CAN move, he plays instruments and sings live very well

music-wise Justin is more daring, his sound is more peculiar and challenging, Gaga is still wandering about generic-pop land and can't seem to move away from that

Both have often embarrassed themselves in the ultimate race to become the greatest performers, Gaga with her awkward dancing skills, Justin with his average acting efforts

You're delusional if you think BTW is generic pop. That actually far more accurately describes half of MDNA. The second JT records anything half as daring as many of the tracks on BTW you can come back to us. There's nothing daring about his Robin Thicke-lite latest album, or prior Prince and Michael Jackson impressions.

And I guess Gaga's piano playing and songwriting don't count as talent?

Born This Way is indeed generic pop, and she promoted it like a generic pop album. So were her previous albums
She can play the piano, but her song writing skills are still amateurish and too teenage-oriented to be taken seriously. Her music is created for her by RedOne and the likes
