So disgusting

Pushing through the market square
So many mothers sighing
News had just come over,
We had five years left to cry in

News guy wept and told us
Earth was really dying
Cried so much his face was wet
Then I knew he was not lying

I heard telephones, opera house, favourite melodies
I saw boys, toys electric irons and T.V.'s
My brain hurt like a warehouse
It had no room to spare
I had to cram so many things
To store everything in there

And all the fat-skinny people, and all the tall-short people
And all the nobody people, and all the somebody people
I never thought I'd need so many people

A girl my age went off her head
Hit some tiny children
If the black hadn't pulled her off, I think she would have killed them

A soldier with a broken arm, fixed his stare to the wheel of a Cadillac
A cop knelt and kissed the feet of a priest
And a queer threw up at the sight of that

I think I saw you in an ice-cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine
Don't think you knew you were in this song

And it was cold and it rained so I felt like an actor
And I thought of Ma and I wanted to get back there

Your face, your race, the way that you talk
I kiss you, you're beautiful, I want you to walk

Sunday - that Anastasia posted is one of my favourite of the later ones.

Ok, I just stopped myself from excitedly spamming the thread with a million songs.

But I'll leave with this:

incredible performance.

Boys, boys, its a sweet thing, sweet thing

Wow! #1 in Ireland too!

Very nice song indeed. He's actually one of those MAJOR artists whose work I've never really investigated. Where do you Bowieheads think I should start?
Hey Riv. I'd start with the 'Best Of Bowie' album for a career spanning overview.

I can't stop playing the new track. I really had thought that we'd never hear from him again so this is HUGE! The man is a genius. Madge, Annie L and the Gaga owe a massive debt to him - as do so so many others!

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I downloaded "Let's Dance", as I've always loved the title track. Also downloading "Best of Bowie" too!

Those Nile Rodgers tracks from Let's Dance are just pure sleek gems : Shake It, China Girl, Modern Love ...

I know this may be a controversial opinion to have about him, but I can't listen to anything he's done before Young Americans. From this one record on, I love every one of them up to Let's Dance, such glorious albums. There is no word to describe Low especially.

best of bowie is one of the most important collections in pop history. just get familiar with his well known stuff and then u can cherry pick his albums according to the eras of your preference.

a bowie comeback, who would have thought, it seemed as if he had retired. this is HUGE news. this new song is just lovely

This is probably good advice - I get so excited b the mere thought of someone 'discovering' him that the collection doesn't seem enough! But of course it probably is a perfect introduction. There are so many wonderful album tracks - often better than the 'hits' though and a lot of his albums, particularly Ziggy Stardust, Diamond Dogs, Low and Outside were really meant to be listened from start to finish rather than just being a collection of songs - so it worth listening to full albums too :)

Please report back on your thoughts Riverwide, I want to hear how you get on :)

Now, I just have to wait until March for my pre-order to arrive :celebrate: :celebrate:

Download the platinum collection. Nearly 60 songs for seven quid on iTunes and it includes some great rarities as well as the hits.
