Absolutely. I was never a massive diehard fan or anything like that, but I've grown up always being aware of his music and image. The older I got, the more I appreciated his music and realised how utterly vital he was to pop music. A legend in the very truest sense of the word.

I haven't heard the new album yet but apparently he went out with a bang.

This seemed more shocking because the man just released a new studio album on Friday.

Brian Eno:

“Over the last few years - with him living in New York and me in London - our connection was by email,” Eno continued. “We signed off with invented names: some of his were mr showbiz, milton keynes, rhoda borrocks and the duke of ear.”

“I received an email from him seven days ago. It was as funny as always, and as surreal, looping through word games and allusions and all the usual stuff we did. It ended with this sentence: ‘Thank you for our good times, brian. they will never rot’. And it was signed ‘Dawn’. I realise now he was saying goodbye.”

I wasn't a die hard fan but I was a fan, I love his music and have few of his CDs... I was still hoping he would go on a tour, I always wanted to see him live

on the occasion of his recent album release i watched the two videos filmed for blackstar and lazarus for the first time last friday night. there was a certain uneasiness when watching the imagery. now it all makes sense as he must have been well aware this would be his farewell era.

while having never really digged into his back catalogue - i only own the best of compilation and a couple of his 70s albums- , i also always regarded him as this untouchable, outworldly original cultural icon and the most charismatic male popstar that has ever emerged. i think most of us started appreciating his music and artistry while at a relatively older stage of our lives, a fact that makes him even more special because quite probably there's even more bowie excellence for us to discover in the future.

and we all know he'll remain immortal forever. we say that for a lot of famous people who pass away, but then most times we just exaggerate. however, in bowie's case it may even be considered an understatement.

Looking to dominate the UK Albums chart this week. Sad that this it was it took, but well deserved.

Well Blackstar was already far ahead at #1 prior to the announcement of his death. We'll just see lots of his other albums making re-entries now too.

It's to see Madge acknowledging his influence so explicitly.

This is genuinely a dark time for music. But I am delighted to see him getting the honour his incredible body of work deserves.

she's already done so a decade ago. unlike her sudden appreciation for mj post his death (which some thought was suspicious and a bit calculative, perhaps not unreasonably may i add) her very own career demonstrates bowie was an artist she had genuinely admired and was a huge source of influence.

black star is gonna be his first number one album in america. ain't it rather shocking he's never made it to the top over there before...

I think she genuinely appreciated MJ all along, she did try working with him after all.

Cher is another one who's never had a #1 album in the US.

I'm not for a second suggesting she has never acknowledged him before. She's done it several times.

Madonna used the same instruments on Like A Virgin that MJ did on Thriller (including the famous Roland TD-12 drums), she stole some of his musicians and the manager.... Yes, she was influenced by him...

She wanted to surround herself with the very best people to further her career. That's exactly what I would do if I could.
