Kylie Minogue quits singing: Ex Neighbours star eyes acting return after splitting with manager

Kylie calls halt to music career after ending relationship with Terry Blamey, who launched her into showbusiness

KYLIE Minogue has called a halt to her music career just days after the end of celebrations of her 25th year as a singer, the Sunday Mirror can exclusively reveal..

The star has shocked her friends by splitting from her long-term manager Terry Blamey, who helped launch her into showbusiness when she was 19. It is claimed the Aussie was upset over tensions between Terry and her dad.

Kylie, now 44, has decided to concentrate on acting for the foreseeable future and take a break from music.

A source close to the star said yesterday: “Kylie’s decision to stop recording for the time being and part company with Terry has come as a massive shock.

“Ever since she broke into the charts in the 80s Terry has been the man behind the scenes. But now Kylie is saying she wants to pull back from the pressures that come with a music career.

“She says she’s determined to devote more time both to herself and to her career as an actress.”

The past year has seen “K25” events all over the world to celebrate Kylie’s 25-year pop career, which began with The Loco-Motion. She has sold more than 65 million records and won an OBE for services to music.

Last month she thrilled a sell-out crowd at London’s O2 Arena, reuniting on stage with Jason Donovan to sing their hit Especially For You. But sources close to the star say manager Terry and her father Ron, had differing opinions on where her career should head.

Terry last week told pals the split was entirely amicable and weeks earlier Kylie appeared at the music industry Artist & Manager Awards where Terry was given the main gong of the night.

The singer thanked him for “helping a 19-year-old girl take on the world”.

Kylie’s former record label Parlophone has been sold and she is now part of the giant Universal Records outlet. Yesterday an industry insider claimed the changes may also have influenced her decision.

The source said: “Kylie used to be a big fish at her former label. She’s now been put into a huge roster of acts at Universal and probably can’t expect the special treatment she was used to.

“She may be thinking she’s achieved most of what she wants as a pop star.”

As an actress Kylie first found fame in Aussie soap Neighbours in 1986, where she played Charlene Robinson. Her character was married to Scott Robinson – played by Jason Donovan.

She recently had a role in the film Holy Motors, which she called a “big challenge”.

Since publication of The Mirror's article, the star has seemingly contradicted it, tweeting: "#lovers #notquitting."

Sad. I was kinda sure she recorded songs for the new album, there were talks when 'Wow' (or smth like that) new song was released this year.

So sad if it's because of legal or other stupid issues we won't hear new music from her. I liked latest song and had big hopes for the album.

from billboard

Kylie Minogue has joined Jay Z's Roc Nation family, the label and entertainment company announced Wednesday. The Aussie singer's U.S. publicist confirms to Billboard that the partnership is for management services, while she is still signed to Parlophone as a recording artist.

Minogue has already been added to the "Management" section of Roc Nation's site. She joins artists ranging from Rihanna, Solange, M.I.A, Shakira and Timbaland, another recent addition, on their roster. Meanwhile, an industry source tells Billboard Minogue will release a new single "soon." She's been at work on a new studio album since at least the spring of 2012, as previously reported.

BRING IT KYLIE!

I need a poptastic dance track to make up for all that acoustic bollocks of last year.

teaming up with one of the industry's most powerful people is the best career decision she could have made. apparently roc nation are heavily involved with recording proceedings of acts they manage so here's hoping something fresh and exciting will come out of this deal. it's also confirmed she's performing at roc nation post grammy concert held in LA this coming sunday along with timbaland and deadmau5.

i think they're wise enough to know a 45 year old gay pop icon going urban just ain't cutting it. if anything, they will probably make sure she's handed songs by first class dance producers

Fingers crossed! I'd *love* a cracking dance record from Kylie. I've really liked most of her albums(including Aphrodite), but I feel she could do better!

oh, absolutely. she should be popping out killer dance pop albums one after another but for some strange reason a bunch of filler tracks somehow make it to the final pressings. even though i believe it's more in blaming her record company for that, she's not to be given the excuse for backing off - way less powerful recording acts succeed in having it their way. from what i've read, she only has a say in picking the lead singles, both slow and 2 hearts were her very own personal choice, whereas head and all the lovers were mutually agreed for obvious reasons.

lots of dance songs left off x and aphrodite were so strikingly good and yet they were neglected in favor of ill fated middle-of-the-road snooze fests, which leads me to assume her label's mistakenly under the impression she has to release music that's ticking as many boxes as possible.

hopefully this is about to change cause no one messes with an artist linked to jay z and his fierce wife

So true. "X" had so many fantastic dance tracks that were only released as b-sides and bonus tracks!

i'm not even referring to official left overs

have u ever listened to
loose control (penned by kish mauve)
in the mood for love and spell of desire ( both produced by mylo)
white diamond (original version as performed on showcoming tour)

now replace these four gems with your weakest tracks on x and there u have it, the best kylie album ever has just emerged

I'm thinking stuff like Timbaland's "The Way I Are."

(Basically what Hard Candy should have been.)
