i wouldn't mind a direction similar to that of body language or kylie minogue 94, but then this might be an unpopular opinion so what do i know

:drama:

just checked the brits are held on Feb 21st. coincidence? surely they'd want her premiering the comeback single on the stage of their show. i understand her commercial appeal has been on the wane for a while now, but she's still kylie.

Yep, I reckon she'll get that "record company bought and paid for" legacy award, or some such! It's still a good launch pad for a new single!

I'm intrigued to see what she'll come back with. Don't let us down Kyles!

Wouldn't a legacy award cement her position as a heritage act, though? Yes, she's now pushing 50 - even though not showing it at all - however there's still time left for her to be regarded a relevant pop artist, her new record company must know that. Besides, she can get a slot without the excuse of a nomination or even a paid for legacy award. If Madonna could manage that, so can Kylie.

I've also not been this excited for new Kylie since X. She simply has to meet expectations this time around.

speaking of legacy awards

"You get me and I get you"
NO KIDDING, GODDESS

Also, how convenient her PR can now use the 50 top 40 hits maker reference as santa baby just repeaked at number 38 exactly 30 years after the release of i should be so lucky

Some lyrics from the single:

Everybody's got a story
Let it be a blaze of glory
Burning bright never fade away
When the final curtain falls
We can say we did it all
The never ending of a perfect day

Can't stand still (Can't stand still)
Won't slow down (Won't slow down)

When I go out I wanna go out dancing now (ah ah ah ah)
When I go out I wanna go out dancing now (ah ah ah ah)
I wanna go out dancing
I wanna go out
I wanna go out
(I wanna go out dancing)
I wanna go out
I wanna go out
(I wanna go out dancing)

15 second clip:

It's cute, but very Avicii-lite from that clip, isn't it?

The single has leaked. Cute melody, but it feels so, so slight and twee. I was hoping for something with much more attitude and edge. It’s INCREDIBLY catchy though. A true earworm.

Also, all songs co-written by her, the first time since impossible princess. It’s quite exciting she’s finally letting go of herself, making the music she wants even though i’m Not entirely convinced of the direction taken. The visuals are a definite step up from the last era, which lame imagery surely must have been one of the reasons kiss me once failed to attract any attention from the general public. She does look stunning and stylish this time around, yes the cowgirl look has been worked to exhaustion by other female pop stars recently (I’m looking at you, Gaga, Miley, even Justine) but Kylie really does bring a refreshing, lightened feel to it.

I like the cover with the exception of the font and size used for the newest Kylie logo. Her handwriting on the set listing is mostly unreadable but who cares, madonna’s done that on confessions and nobody minded.

The song dancing I like it quite a lot, but I’m not loving it. As riv put it, it’s an earworm and her vocal delivery is primarily responsible for that. However, it’s lacking the wow factor that would force people outside of her fanbase to pay attention. I mean, it’s lovely and catchy and all, but it does sound a bit... basic? Verses are ok yet not good enough to elevate a pop song, the post chorus breakdown sounds a bit cheap to my ears and does not do justice to the rest of the song. The chorus is brilliant, though. Don’t judge me as being harsh, I still believe it’s a superior lead to the likes of into the blue and spinning around (the latter I’ve never got into it). It’s just that I was expecting a more sophisticated soundscape - don’t give the gays what they want, bitch, give them what YOU want and they’ll buy your tour tickets nevertheless, you’ve earned that.

It’s gonna be intriguing how this fares chartwise. Times have changed and so have the metrics used to measure music consumption. A good result for her would be to score a top 40 hit just like steps did a year ago, even manage top 30 as I would think her appeal is still wider than steps. The big question is, could a Kylie album, even if it turns out to be a good one, sell without smash hits to promote it? Kiss me once, MDNA and rebel heart proved artists like her and Madonna need popular songs to shift units. How can an album campaign have any chance of success when streaming figures are beyond abysmal and radio refuses to playlist their once female pop royalty?

Oh, and i’m So sure riv’s gonna appreciate golden. Me, i’m Not sure cause I cannot digest the country sound even in its poppiest aspect. I blame Gaga for opening Pandora’s Box.
