Understandable.
I wouldn't want that meeting here

Stuff like this is the reason I avoid the news like it was the black plague.

Just the knowledge that that is happening is enough to make me want to hurl. Yeah, I know it has something to do with a G20 summit or something like that, but for all I care, that's all I want to know.
"Would you like something to drink?" She opened the fridge. "We have water, milk, juice, spiders, Dr. Pepper-"
"Spiders?"
"Spiders it is then."
"No, that wasn't-"
But she was already pouring him a brimming glass of spiders.

It's the G20 Summit - a group of international wealthy and powerful leaders who feel (and demonstrate) that they have the right and power to walk into any city in any country in the world, disregard that country's laws and the rights of its citizens, disrupt the flow of their lives, and do as they please, at any time - and the city and country that they're disrupting must give them everything that they demand, regardless of how reasonable or unreasonable it may be, because they have enough wealth and power to bankrupt and shut down any country in the world if they so choose, and would not hesitate to do so if they were to be snubbed.

Needless to say, the citizens of the host countries don't quite see it their way, and respond with hostility, especially when their own lives are disrupted and basic civil rights are suspended for the 'protection' of the G20 members. Sometimes those citizens respond to the G20's incursion into their country as if it were an act of war - a foreign aggressor occupying their nation by force - and respond with violence. When this happens, the police, security, and military forces act to suppress the insurgency against the occupying invader.

...and it escalates from there.

Meh. Contrary to what they've been spouting I don't think killing him will do much of anything regarding destroying the terror networks. Sure he was highly visible, he painted the target on himself, but there are other people out there that didn't and ... yeah more hype then needed.

Got to agree with Cryptic.

If they'd done this 10 years ago, or even five, I'd see it differently.
Right now, I hear it and just want to say "and?"

Add in I was sick of them thumping their chests five minutes into the announcement and now they've done 24 hours of celebrating...

All that is doing is pissing them off, which means retaliations.

Fine, forget I said anything.
Clearly posting fairly important news in the news topic is suddenly frowned upon.

Not upset with you at all, Serenade.
It's the way this is all being overblown by the news/TV here in the states.

He was one man. One man who planned a lot of evil, true. But only one man.
Sadly, I don't see his death as making a whole lot of difference in the big picture.

And I'm not looking for a fight about it. My honesty about this is already drawing fire on another forum.

Personally, I feel that all of the celebratory cheering and back-patting over it is disgusting. Yes, Osama bin Laden was a man who displayed a disturbingly sociopathic moral bankruptcy, and wrought much destruction in his wake. However, termination of a life is something which, while occasionally necessary (which it may have been in this case), still remains a solemn and regrettable event.

The fact that anyone can celebrate the death of another human being, no matter how much the target deserved it, says to me that those doing the celebrating have lost a great deal of their own humanity, and shows that the act was less about justice or security, and more about hatred and vengeance - and showing that side of ourselves as a nation to an 'enemy' only reinforces their view of us as monsters that need to be exterminated, much as the celebration of American deaths by his followers led the American people to perceive them as inhuman and unworthy of life or basic dignity.

The execution itself may have been a regrettable necessity, and I don't feel that I can judge that action in one way or another; the celebration in the aftermath, however, was a barbaric display of uncivilized behavior that cannot be excused or justified in any way.

I am happy to hear that they will not be releasing the death photos, thought fakes are floating around the net. If they had released them, well I probably would have spammed the White House, the networks and any where else I could think of saying how down right disgusting, and morbid.

Has Trump demanded the release of the Long-Form Death Certificate yet?

SD, I really hope you weren't one of the idiots that where rioting over the Canucks loosing the Stanly Cup. They're showing a clip where a guy gets nailed in the crotch by a flash bang that goes off, people rolling and torching cars, civilians and police trying to calm the riots down getting beat. Bad sports y'all.

Some of you probably know about this.
Some of you might not.

I understand that this topic is sorta kinda reserved for sillyish news... but I'm sorry, I need to bring this up.

Sick over what happened and sick of how over dang played it is in the news already. I think in the hour I watched this morning, 10 minutes was not devoted to the shooting. 5 of that 10 was two weather reports.

Even sicker is that the response to this is to ban character costumes, because that was clearly the most threatening element of the attack.

Socioeconomic desperation? Mental illness? Assault weapons? Unlimited ammunition? Unarmed victims? Nope, none of those were significant factors in the attack, so we don't need to address them at all.

The batman costume, though? That's the problem - ban it!

Typical knee-jerk reactions, just like the calls for tighter gun laws we're hearing about now.
How about we try something different?
How about we actually TRY AND UNDERSTAND why this guy did what he did?
