How else are you going to get 500 channels? (and still have nothing good on)

Jay, I remember when getting more than 5 or 6 channels required you living in a HUGE city like Dallas, or New York

I lived in the suburbs of NYC growing up... we had a huge antenna rigged up on the rooftop, and even so: on VHF there was WCBS (channel 2), WNBC (channel 4), WNEW (channel 5 - independent at the time, long before there was a FOX network), WABC (channel 7), WOR (channel 9 - independent, actually from Secaucus, NJ and not from NYC), WPIX (channel 11 - independent, before Turner took over), and WNET (channel 13 - the PBS channel) - and that was it. If the weather was just right, you could occasionally get the Connecticut mirror CBS (channel 3) or ABC station (channel 8), but they were always fuzzy, and carried the same programming as the NYC counterparts, so there wasn't any point.

You could also fiddle with the UHF dial, to pick up spanish-language channels on 41 and 47 (which my father refused to allow us to watch, because of his deep racial prejudice against spanish-speaking people).

...and then, somewhere around the early 1980s, the Cable people came, promising that if we paid them a monthly fee, we'd never have to see another advertising commercial on television again, because the subscription fees would pay for the networks to support themselves, and TV commercials would become a thing of the past. That was the main selling point - not clearer images, greater channel selection, improved programming, or anything else: the promise of eliminating commercials from the television was the lie that sold the new technology. Simply put: they lied to us, as corporations are notorious for doing, with complete impunity despite truth-in-advertising laws... If I were to boycott every industry that built its fortune on deception rather than the production of a desirable product, I think I'd be Amish - but the Cable industry was build on such a fundamental lie that I will not now, nor ever, offer any support for the industry again, in ANY capacity.

Explains a lot doesn't it?
I grew up in a valley where you couldn't get cable so you had to make do with: CBS, NBS, ABC, Two PBS, and if the weather was right Fox and UPN.

[We got Cable when I was a kid, and I had access to it till I moved out of the main house. I found that I did not miss it at all and became far more productive.]

Yikes.....
Another reminder of why I DON'T watch that show.
That, and I never cared for the "ultra good guy" Batman idea

Sorry.
First, it's the retro-style costumes
Second, it's flashbacks to the few bits of that show I've seen.....and hated.
Batman is a grim, dark character.
That's how he was made.
That's what he's supposed to be.
My comment was less a shot at the video than a shot at the series as a whole

[Well, the guy that made a blog post about this refered to it as 'silver age' style batman. From alot of what I have heard about the silver age, it was after the golden age ended due to heavy ristrictions or something being put onto the comics industry.]

[Not to mention the few Silver Age comics that Linkara has reviewed (he is a reviewer of bad comic books and an informative entertaining guy) have all been very......insane.]

Not a big fan of that era myself.
Added some good characters, but did its level best to wreck some as well

Exactly. THAT Bruce Wayne could not POSSIBLY have gone through the same origins

Not THAT Bruce. No way.

Truth be told, there were exactly THREE good things to come out of that series:
The Batmobile
Yvonne Craig as Batgirl
And, the best thing of all from that series: Julie Newmar as Catwoman

I'm not really a fan of the Futura Batmobile. Maybe it's just over exposure, but I don't like it. My favorite is the Burtonmobile, but the Tumbler is also awesome.

I just don't want to see them go back to the golden age Batman. I think that guy was psychotic.

[Depends on your perspective Rogue.]

[Me, I wonder why so many people I know dislike the tumbler. It makes SENSE in the setting it is in, as a stylized batmobile would simply be unable to make it through traffic.]

A lot of people dislike the Tumbler because it's not sleek.

Me, I'd agree with Grey. Burton-mobile for the win

There'd be a lot less crime in Gotham.

All the criminals would be dead....

The Tumbler's not technically a Batmobile, it's just repurposed military hardware. But, thats beside the point.

Batman has had far less sleek vehicles, in the past. Some early Batmobiles were vans, with full crime labs in the back. There's also been at least one monster truck, and The Dark Knight Returns gave Bats an immense tank, that was a rolling fortress.

It's not like any of them are practical in an urban environment. An enduro style motorcycle would probably make the most sense, but wouldn't be very cool.
