Started replacing the old, non functional bathroom vent fan, last weekend. The old wiring in the attic is weird, and I couldn't get it working right. (fan would only work, if the light was on, too) I spent the week recovering. Also, buying knee pads. I still have some bruises from last week.

Back at it tonight, and now everything works right. I wound up disconnecting everything, and hooking things up the way that made sense to me. I wound up using one fewer wire nuts, and had a length of wire left over. Not the first time I've taken something apart and had pieces left, when I put it back together. Just the first time it worked properly, afterwards.

Now, I need a shower....

Especially being near the edge of the attic, where there's no head room, from the slope of the roof. A head mounted lamp was invaluable. Could have used that, last week.

I suspect my right forearm is going to be rather colorful.

Happens.
But the results are occasionally worth the pain they bring

So, the other day, one of the pulleys for the garage door tried to eat the cable that runs over it.... The side of it started to break off, at the base of the groove the cable runs in. It pretty firmly held the cable that way, with the spring at near full extension.

Got a new pulley yesterday, and installed tonight. Managed to get the tension off the spring and cable safely, but it was still kind of terrifying. When I pried the pulley apart to free the cable, it was pretty clear the whole side of it was close to falling off.

The lumpy texture is textured paint that was put on by some previous owner. They didn't bother to cover up any of the door hardware, when they painted the walls.

Cripes... It amazes me the horrors people inflict on their homes in the name of Repairs!

Glad you were able to get to it before anything really broke

I think that was broken enough. I fought enough with the door earlier this year, when the bracket at the bottom of the door that the cable attaches to broke. With how much smoother the door works now, I think that pulley was failing for a long time.
