So, it turns out that rechargeable batteries really don't like sitting around unused for a decade or so. I decided to dig out ye olde truck and start messing with it. The Ni-MH battery packs I got 10 or 12 years ago didn't seem to be holding much of a charge. After a few charge/discharge cycles, and some overlong charging, I finally got some decent run time out of them. Dunno, if I'll be able to revive my last remaining Ni-Cd pack. But, the Ni-MHs work, and those are what I was after. Not that I wouldn't mind some of those newer 5000mah packs they have now. On a side note, 15 minute quick chargers really don't like running for an hour at a time. Gets a bit warm. |

I'd love to take it trailing. Don't really have any place to drive it, near by. (until it snows, but I hat the cold) I've been running it in the yard. There's a few decent sized downed branches I've been running it over. Been trying to climb the burn pile, too. too many overhanging sticks, at the top. I made a skid plate out of aluminum, to protect the differential. It doesn't really need it, but I like metal skid plates. I hit it with some primer, then gave it a coat of black paint. I'm shocked at how well the paint's holding up. It's got far more scuffs that haven't gone through the paint, than it does chips or scrapes. |

Meh, Mattracks. Easily enough done. Just, not on the chassis I'm using. Check out the videos of HD Overkill, on the RC Sparks YouTube channel. He's got a six wheel drive, four wheel steering truck, with those things on it. |

Wet leaves get into everything! It's bad enough when they wrap themselves around the backs of the road wheels, but they like to get into the drive chains and their sprockets. |

Whoever designed the chain tensioning setup on this thing should be beaten with a waterlogged muskrat. The track drive sprockets are cantilevered out just in front of the chassis. They share common axles with the front chain sprockets. These axles are completely smooth save for a groove for an E clip that keeps everything from falling off the end, are bolted to the chassis side plates with Phillips head screws (Kyosho loves Phillips heads) from the back side. There is no room to get in there, with a screwdriver. You have to pull the whole side off the chassis, which involves pulling the rear chain sprocket out of the differential, and fighting with the steering linkages. Once you done all that, and want to start tightening the axle back down in its new location.... Remember that part about it being completely round? Fortunately, I have a set of soft jaw pliers, but even those only go so far, on a greasy piece of metal. I want one of these! It's what replaced the system I just described on the immediate successor to the Blizzard EV I have. Hex ends on the axles, and they tighten down against a common piece. So much easier to work on. |

I just did that, tightening the chains. The other nice thing about the replacement parts I linked to is they'll drop right in to my version of the chassis. It is the only mechanical difference between the EV, and the DF-300 EP versions of the Blizzard. |

Orederd that DF-300 tube and rod set, just waiting for it to ship. Just installed full bearings. Seems to make a difference. Now, I get to tear the whole thing back apart, because I left two washers out of the differential assembly.... |

I'm not entirely sure those two washers actually do anything. There's a cast aluminum tube on either side of the diff, that joins the out drives to the rear chain sprockets. The washers go to the inboard side of each tube, to prevent them from sliding back and forth. I'm pretty sure that the way the whole thing goes together prevents those tubes from moving around anyway. But, they're back in now. Post office finally updated tracking on the other parts. They should be here, tomorrow. Extra fun, with the bearings. Ordering two metal shield bearings, and a bunch of rubber sealed bearings apparently confuses Team Fast Eddy's packing department. They were all rubber sealed. |

And, because the instructions have no real parts list, I missed getting two bearings, I need. Just discovered them, installing the new front bar. So much easier to adjust the chain tension now, though, B) |

My battery charger has died. All the power coming out of the transformer runs through some component that's no longer passing the electricity. I don't have a 12 volt power supply to run the thing in DC mode, either. I tried powering it off a spare computer PSU, but the charger doesn't create enough load, and the PSU shuts down. |
