My old computer, AKA: The Monolith, has a rear molex connector on its power supply. It pumps out more amperage hooked up to that than plugged in to the wall, I damn near cooked a battery pack.

Iknowright?

In quick charge mode, The charger pumps four and a half amps, plugged into the wall. On a 12volt supply, it dumps over 11.

I wonder how many Ni Cads these things killed, back in the day.

The design dates back to the 80s, and it was the cheapest thing going, when I bought it. Even the cheap ones are a lot more sophisticated, these days.

Something very strange going on with my number one Ni-MH pack. (I number them, to keep track of usage.) The two cells closest to the cord get really hot during charging, while the ones farthest away stay cool. And yet, it gave me a good long full power run, today.

EDIT: Okay, the far cells do start to warm up, after a while, might be heat transferring from the other cells, but I think they're just charging slower. These things pick up weird internal impedance when they get old, especially if they sit around unused for a long time, like mine have.

The charger gets disturbingly hot, running on 12 volts. :ph43r:

I'd keep an eye on it, and maybe check into what's normal for these types of batteries

I'm pretty sure that's not normal, so I am keeping an eye on it.

First snow run of the year/decade. I've been doing a lot of detuning in the steering, to keep it from locking up one track, as soon as I turn the wheel. That's fine, in the dry. Once the brakes get wet, it starts getting real hard to turn. Time to move the steering linkages further back out on the servo horn.

A splash guard to keep the bulk of snow/water out of the lights' battery holder might be wise.

Tracked vehicles, moving at speed, often develop an undulating motion, like a motor boat on waves. Watching the nose dip just in time for the brush guard/tube bumper to crash through a deep bit of snow is pretty darn cool.

I still hate the frikkin' cold!

Beefiest thing I've built on the truck, so far. It's probably overbuilt, but that bumper can take a beating. It's got a couple of substantial dings in it, and those "tubes" are solid chunks of aluminum.

When I built the new side pieces, I moved the tow hooks forward about 1/32". It was a good thing I did. When I put the old body back on it, that I'm still using, the tips of those hooks are just hair's breadth away from touching the bumper on the body. For some reason, it struck me as really funny, at the time.

So, the cab for the new body mounts with sort of reverse body post system. The post stick down, from behind the front bumper (the body's bumper, not that big brush guard) and go into a piece of square tube. The body clips go through both, holding the front of the cab in place. I'm planning a new blog post with pictures to help explain everything. I made the posts out of styrene tube sleeved with aluminum tube. Delrin/nylon rod would be ideal, but I don't have any of that, the right size. Wouldn't even know where to get it. The aftermarket body posts I have are way too big, and I don't own a lathe.

The point of all this rambling? I had the whole mechanism working, I could put the clips in and pull them, with little trouble, but they sure did go through hard. The body clips are chrome plated spring steel. They have a lot of drag on that aluminum tube. I took a close look at the ends of the posts.

I have located the source of the drag. The steel clips were eating through the outside of the aluminum, every time they went past. There are grooves on the sides of the posts, that are surprisingly deep, for no more often than the clips have gone past. This rate of wear genuinely surprised me. :ph43r:

The new brass sleeved posts work much easier. We'll see how well they hold up.

You know I'm the one designing this, right? <_<

I think the brass will be okay. Doesn't seem to be getting eaten, like the aluminum was.
