Type of aluminum has a lot to do with, too. This stuff is pretty soft. The stuff on my bikes is a lot harder.

Sounds like the brass may be harder than the aluminum.

Well, yeah, it's brass. Still softer than the steel, but seems to hold up better. With the round tube, I cut the aluminum with my X-acto knife, just like I do the plastic. For the brass, I have to break out the razor saw.

I just wasn't expecting the body clips to generate that kind of wear on the aluminum. They don't do that to plastic body mounts.

The blog has now been updated with a detailed rundown of the body mounting system, and other bits and bobs.

Some people are fastidious about maintenance. I am not one of those people....

My drive chains were making funny noises, and some of the links didn't want to straighten out. Worked a little 30wt in, and wiped off the excess. All better, now.

Sounds like a good solution for the problem, Grey

Messy solution. But, I've been working on bikes long enough to know how to fix a crunchy chain.

Got the first light bar built! Then, I turned it on....

Of the 14 LEDs I purchased for trail lighting, 10 of them appear to be the wrong color. I ordered cool white lights, to look more like the LED lighting used on most real trail trucks, these days. Most of these are warm white. I in communication with the company I bought the lights from, about an exchange. So far, it doesn't seem like it's going to be a problem, but they did ask to see pictures of the lights, so they could see the difference, themselves. These are the pictures I sent them:

Definitely different colors. Can really see the difference in that last pic

Took a few attempts to get the right combination to actually show the difference, and not just a big blurry blown out blob. My camera does not like taking pictures of lit up LEDs as bright as these are.

Can definitely understand that. Mine doesn't either.

That light bar in the last picture is brighter, with just six LEDs, than any flashlight I own. Even a single one of those LEDs leaves me seeing spots.

Explains a lot doesn't it?
Going to borrow Grey's thread for a little grumbling.

So I pull my laptop out of it's case and turn it on. At first it sounds fine, and then the fan starts sounding like a ... I wanna say a blender or a little food processor. This starts about half way through a Windows update, so I grit my teeth and wait the download out before shutting it down and flipping it over to see if something was in the fan.

Fan was clear, but I'd lost the screw for that corner. I shrug and leave it off while I hop on a different machine to see if I could figure out what was going on.

Best guess, which I am 99% sure is correct, is the fan needs cleaned and lubed up. So I figure, how hard can it be to do that? I'll look it up...

Yeah... that was a bad idea. Some of the 'helpful' websites that explain how to take off the back to get to the fan just scared the crap out of me. So i dropped a line to one of the two places near me that does computer repairs and what not asking how much said service would run me.

I figure I'm going to be without the use of my laptop for at least a week just cause I don't want to listen to the noise while trying to do things. I did turn it back on, it sounds like it's trying to blend gravel but doesn't seem to be over heating, long enough to back up my files.

Last time I had a fan sounding like that, it was about to go poof.
Backup sounds like a VERY good idea

Sorry. Just going on past experience.
Blowing it out can help, certainly, but I'd definitely get it looked at

Plan to, and I don't plan on turning it on until then, so Ack!! no STO this week. :(

And I may be exaggerating the noise it makes just a tad. Now that I think about it, it's more an electric razor then a blender.

EDIT 2: adulterating? Woof that spell check suggestion was bad.

The snow is all melted. It saturated the ground. Then we got rain.

Took the truck out for a little swampin'. B)

My sister took her car swamping in the drive way. It has maybe 10 inches of clearance between the undercarriage and the ground... she got stuck pretty good.

~~

WOO laptop is in the shop finally. Needs a new fan, but isn't costing me an arm or a leg.

The truck has tracks. It doesn't get stuck in soft ground so easily.

Could be worse, could be digging the suspension out of the leaves and grass

And, the Formica is installed.

No, really. One of the tips I saw at the rcsnowcats.com forums was one guy said he makes new brake shoes out of Formica samples. Hopefully, this will settle the steering down. The 120,000wtg diff oil helped, but it was still inconsistent and twitchy.
