Scraping his way out
-Jeng-
A foul smell wafted in the air, flowing from the seething ocean brim. This was a year of strange happenings so far. The lightning hadn't struck sea in days, the tide has cease to rise and fall in steady pace. Sailors moons were quite common, although they neigh help the weary travelers who gazed upon them. All of these wrecked havoc on the ecosystem, and economy of port towns. The pirates however, their lives were bountiful, boats couldn't dock at usual times, some ships remained lost out to see for days at a time. Upon all this was the upcoming Redline, the time of the year when the Tralent whales were out to feast. These humongous crimson colored whales, have a massive feeding frenzy once a year in 6 different spots. After this, the blood in the sea and the migration of the whales seems to make a red line, unfortunately between two of the main continents. In between Ren and Beon, the seas team with ships for now, later however, no one dare cross the line in fear of the whales berserk tendencies.

The Riptide, a ship newly abandoned is set to sail within the next week, or so its captain thinks. It's docked on the edge of town along the northern coast of Ren, in desperate need of a crew. "This is where your adventure begins"

Leaning on his cane Itsuo set on his way to gather a day's bit of information. He read a note in the Sharkskin Inn that told only the most "financially motivated" individuals to check a sign in the shipyards checkhouse. A man to his left continued to glance over every couple seconds, he was starting to get a bit unnerved and decided to leave. Outside the door children chased each other through the street and even here he could hear a fight. Nowadays it seemed like everyone was fighting each other for some reason or another. He tended to keep quiet as to avoid confrontation. He wandered his way through the crowd of seafarers to come to read a sign over the ship notices in the checkhouse. The Riptide had found new management as of late and was seeking people to meet at its side. It seemed like people had a habit of touching the note as the read it, the bottom was torn half way and fingerprints lined the edge.

He wandered his way over to the renewed ship to find a crowd, not to his surprise as half the city was out of work at the time of the Redline.

What a wonderful day in the neighborhood..

((I guess we need someone to be captain, I expected Mike to own up as usual, but it can be anyone!))

(I'd love to be captain again! )

Wolfe watched the crowd from a post which he leaned upon. It wasn't known but he was to captain the ship. He glanced around looking for any able bodied men when his eyes fell upon a newcomer. He wore white robes and walked with a snake cane. Whether for show or needed he didn't know. The boy looked interesting. Might make a good crew mamber. Slowly he approached the boy. "Hello... Name's Wolfe." He stared the boy down and awaited his response.

"Itsuo would be mine, good to meet you" He leaned over putting both hands on his cane in front of him, "Do you happen to know anything about todays events? I hear the ship is looking for a crew. I dont know how many of these people could actually pull it off but Im willing to guess a few will take a shot and go down accordingly" he said taking cheap glances around at all the people he knew wouldnt have the stuff to run a ship or even work on it. His impression of Wolfe seemed to escape him at the moment, he just took it all in and decided not to judge him for now, after all he did have the guts to talk and introduce himself without a real reason.

"And you can do better? This ship is setting sail. Real soon." Wolfe smirked at Itsuo. Slowly he walked towards the gangplank as if nothing in the world really mattered. As he reached the base he stopped and turned."Anyone looking to come aboard step towards me. Everyone else... Leave."

-Her interest raised as she listened to the two men converse, attempting to blend in with the crowd as she eavesdropped. 'A ship, huh?' It'd been ages since she had caught a decent amount of money, and she was getting rather tired of robbing off the men in this town who had hardly enough money to steal. She had never in her life been on a ship, but these men didn't have to know that, as she was quite apt at lying. She decided it was now or never to speak up, and get herself on. She would separate herself from the crowd and approach the two men, showing herself as confident.-

"Hello there, sirs, and good day. I'm sorry for the intrusion, but, I happened to overhear that you're looking for crew members for your fine ship. I know I may look nothing but a scrawny girl, but I assure you, I would be an asset to your, er, team."

-She would then smile brightly at the two of them, hoping she had pulled it off.-

Itsuo looked back up to the man that was just talking to him, he wondered why all of a sudden he felt the need to send an order to everyone. Nonetheless the girl that had assumed them a team stood smiling. "Why, you can give it a try too, he said hop aboard and well, why not?" Itsuo motioned with his hand forward to the plank and looked in her eyes. He wasn't sure when the last time he had seen a woman up close. A man passed behind the girl and eyed her as he was walking aboard the ship, Itsuo's instinct had once again kicked in his head. "Come with me, and we'll see whats happening over there" Itsuo then held his hand out to her instead of the ship, hoping for a pleasant response and to also to keep the wandering eyes at bay.

Wolfe watched Itsuo and the girl carefully. He had a feeling Itsuo would join him but what of the girl? She seemed to have an interest in his ship. "If you two join, what would your skills be used for?" Itsue seemed to be the nursey, preacher type but the girl he couldn't place. She seemed to delicate for this trip.

Kintaro smiles, leaning on his spear in front of a box down by the docks. Usually, he runs a lucrative dice game around here, it seemed that everyone was elsewhere, today. He packed up his stuff, and sets off at a brisk pace down the pier, making his way to what is normally an empty dock, where he fishes when he gets a chance. Lo and behold, though, much to his surprise, there is a ship there, with people and everything! He approaches, leaning on his spear warily, and looks around, soon spotting, in the midsts of the hustle and bustle, some figures boarding the ship. So he followed them, thinking, of course, to ask the captain to simply move his ship, and not realizing that the ship is already getting ready to leave....

Wolfe watched the guy approaching his ship. He'd seen that boy before. The little bastard cheated him out of everything he had. "Hold that thought..." He told the others. Slowly he removed a dagger and while playing with it approached the boy. "May I help you?" His hand tightening on the hilt of the blade.

-She took the man's hand and smiled pleasantly at him. 'Oh good, a soft one. Perfect.'-

"Thank you, I will. And, forgive me, I've failed to introduce myself. Harume, is my given name."

-As soon as she spoke her name, she regretted it. She should have used an alias, knowing that 'Harume' was much to sophisticated a name for a common town girl. She smiled through it, however and pretended it to be nothing. The other man, the one who seemed to be in charge, spoke and asked them their skills, and she froze a bit, at a loss of what to say. She was not too nervous, however, to notice the medallion he had, and noted it, filing it away for later.-

-Another man was approaching and she was happy to see he interrupted the question of what her use would be on the ship, giving her a moment to think.-

Kintaro looks up, and instantly stands up straight, spear at the ready, recognizing this guys face. He'd had a particularly good bout of luck, and had ended up taking just about everything the guy had....and then promptly lost it in a poker game the next night. Of course, the man had thought he was cheating, but thats how the game goes. "Oh, hey man! I'm, uhhh....wanting to join your ship?" He didn't want to,of course, but it'd be a daring way to get out of this....

Wolfe that over how useful this boy's skills could be. "I might be able to use you.... But I'll be watching you and my wallet" He promptly dragged the boy towards the others and shoved him on the ground. "So... As I was saying. What are your skills?"

Itsuo also noticed the distraction, it had distracted him for a moment also. A quick glance behind them turned out to be the only thing that made sense right now. The man that had eyed Harume seemed to be listening in, and turned away when looked at. "Harume, can I have a word with you?" he asked, looking over his shoulder towards the man. He pointed his hand towards the upper part of the ship where the wheel resided. "We'll return shortly Mr. Wolfe, you can count on that" He shortly realized the man had noticed, but Itsuo knew he would regret his action if he took any.

Wolfe shrugged and walked towards his ship. Kicking the boy as he passed. When he was on bored he quickly found his mandolin and started to play a sad song of love long gone.
