~ THE FLORAN ~

Floran are an ancient, highly-evolved plant-based race, often considered as savages by many other races. However, florans in reality have a well defined structure in their own colonies, and despite the common hissing heard when they talk, along with the broken language, they’re really capable reverse engineers and rather creative creatures. They often lack the imagination to create stuff themselves, but they are a race who can adapt easily to changes within one or two generations, and quick learners, meaning they have spread across the galaxy far and wide.

Anatomy:

The most common description of a floran is “Walking plants” along with “Hunters”, and they’re not far away from reality. Florans resemble humanoid creatures, with rather large dark eyes, wide fanged mouths and lack of visible sensory organs such as noses or ears. This doesn’t mean however their senses are lacking: Eyesight, smell and hearing of a floran is often superior to any other race, making them excellent soldiers, hunters or bodyguards. Granted their senses may not be as capable as some trained animals, they can master their skills with enough years, allowing them to identify where is everyone in a room with just the creaking of a wood piece, for example. Their longevity is worth noting too: An average floran often dies rather early compared to other races, around 50-60 years. This is due to the fact florans expand quickly and face often dangers that can easily overwhelm them, that can be hunts going wrong, racism making their lives harder, slavery… However, a healthy floran can easily live up to 500 years if they take care of themselves and avoid unbeatable dangers (Things that young floran often forget to do)

Florans lack any Hair or “meat” on themselves, made mostly of plant matter. Their skin is more like a shell, resembling tree bark that covers the strong pale vine-like muscles and hardened wood bones that make the insides of a floran. For their insides, they resemble pretty much a “human” in terms of organs, although they’re composed of plant matter instead of bones and muscles, and their blood is replaced by sap, making florans bleed out really slowly, along to having a very low pulse and being colder than other races. Their skeletons are akin to wood, having surprisingly high resistance and some elasticity compared to normal bones, allowing them to withstand and hold heavier loads than most races.

It’s also worth noting that Floran commonly focus their diet on meats, however they’re completely omnivorous, and are able to digest even rotten food to survive. Their diet also consist of water and other simple liquids that can help themselves to stay hydrated,, since a dry floran becomes slumber and, sadly, more flammable than they naturally are. Poisons May have a harder time affecting a floran, however Alcohol and heavily salted foods can leave them in a painful agonizing state that can end in death if they’re not helped immediately, via providing them a clean water source or cleaning their stomachs.

For “hair” they have Foliage, often covering them at the head, shoulders, wrists and ankles, although this foliage can be trimmed to suit better looks. However, Cutting or breaking the floran’s foliage hurts them as if they were hurt themselves, so trimming a floran is a delicate task. Some can grow moss or leaves too to resemble beards from other races, although this is rarely seen.

Florans are also really adaptable, and depending of their origins, their anatomy may change slightly to make sure they’re adapted to their environment:

  • Common/Plains: This is the most commonly seen floran out there, coming from simple garden planets, they don’t have anything different of what is stated from their general anatomy.

  • Jungle: Jungle florans are often thinner and lighter than the average floran, adapted to climb the tall trees that cover their homeworlds, making them really agile and nimble. This comes with the cost of not being as strong as the other variants.

  • Tropical: Tropical are easy to identify, as they are commonly lush and vibrant in colour, and often taller than the average floran. They can even grow proper food on themselves, but they’re also one of the most voracious kinds since their own body asks for nutrients almost constantly to survive.

  • Swamp: Swamp floran are a rare kind to find in space, Their foliage replaced by moss, and their skin being rather oily. They don’t have a well defined shape or notable feature, apart of being rather hard to grab and that they’re impressive swimmers, although They need a humid atmosphere to survive since they dry out quicker than any other type.

  • Artic: Artic floran is a rather atypical find in space. Their bark is mostly impermeable and thicker than the usual, they show up a great strength and rather tick sap in comparison to others, due to drinking very little water. They lack the agility that other florans may have, but compensate with strength and rather sharp senses. They’re prone to dehydration in hot environments.

  • Volcanic: Originally mistaken as a whole different race due to the more rock-like appearance. They often show quite lush foliage contrasted with really dark and dry-looking skins and glowing eyes, and apart of being fireproof, they are one of the most healthy kind of floran, able to withstand almost any environment. cold areas however makes them suffer.

  • Desert: Desert-kind florans show quite a smooth skin and curious foliage able to store water easily. They drink a lot of water but they’re able to consume it slowly and to regurgitate it for others in case of need. Despite their small size and smooth skin however, they can generate spikes as self defense mechanism all over their bodies. While this thorns may not kill anyone, they can hurt and produce minor cuts in bare skin, along with a lot of itching. They’re really resistant against heat, however due to the amount of water they drink, they bleed out quicker than normal florans, almost as quickly as a human.

  • Space: Space florans are the ones that have been grown in no planet in particular, often in space stations and in contact with other races. They’re considered civilized, and lack the hissing the rest of their kind have. However, they are in general weaker and less alert than any other, considering they grow in less risky places.

History:

Floran History isn’t quite as extensive as what people would assume, despite their race being scattered amongst the stars without any explanation to the modern races and their DNA having been studied as older than all the organic races, rivaling even Novakid’s status as an ancient being. Unfortunately, Floran’s are rarely scholars, and thus most of their history was scribbled onto walls of caves or drawn on now-destroyed fur paintings. No Floran will ever know their own history… and other races can only guess, since even the foremost experts in Floran History were probably eaten while studying said wall scribbles, especially since over thousands and thousands of years, those wall carvings would have obscene, obscure and childish drawings put over them.

In the Ancient Galaxy, Floran’s came to be in existence through natural evolution of living roots. Their homeworld, now forgotten, was full of creatures of living flora that fended off fauna as a regular occurrence. Naturally, it was a wild, ignored and harsh planet that no ancient race dared step on due to the high chances of death. Floran’s evolved to survive in such a place, having strong bodies, two arms to hold weaponry, two strong legs to sprint long distances and a childish mind that was capable of setting traps and creating homes. Their evolution was completely natural on their home planet.
Ancient races eventually found of their existence and opinions were ranged. Most viewed Floran’s as a savage race, only worthy of being tested on- other races took them as slaves for labour and combat- whilst others wished to help them grow their own civilizations.
Floran Civilizations did grow: tribes spread throughout the stars, as escaped slaves or by migrating to new planets. But how they did so, their technology given and their general place in the ancient galaxy was forgotten as all the ancient races were killed off by The Ruin. Those that lived faded within time- and only two races remain widespread from the Ancient Galaxy: Florans and Novakids.

In the Modern Galaxy, Florans were discovered for the first time by Hylotl 2537, to which the Floran tribe in question reverse-engineered the FTL drive to fly themselves off the planet. It is quite unknown how the Florans knew instantly how to do so; they possessed no technology they could call their own- yet the clever living flora reached into the stars and met other Florans on other planets.
A year later, Greenfingers attempted to make peace with the fishpeople, but the misunderstandings between their races made it extremely difficult to do so- and thus, war broke out. Florans flew across the stars in stolen, reverse-engineered spaceships, uniting Floran tribes to war and raiding anyone/anything they came across. Of course, the accounts of this are mixed: most Protectorate members speak of how wildly friendly some Florans were, as the Florans were only at war with the Hylotl. In particular, Faithful Glitch were very fond of the Florans- and the Florans, them… so much so that the Florans gave Faithful Glitch spaceships for the first time in history. Human’s were generally seen as “weak” by Florans, so much so that some Florans simply raided them and left them alive, whilst others laughed and joked with them. Apex were quite feared by Florans, not only due to their advanced technology, but also their strong physical abilities. Not all Florans can be united in opinion or interests, so their history and the accounts of both friendliness, savagery, intelligence and lack of intelligence vary. One thing could be agreed upon, however: Florans were both cute as they were deadly.

After the Floran-Hyloth War came to an end in 2580, after the successful invasion of one of the Hylotl’s homeworlds in 2563 and the Protectorate’s decree to end the war in 2575, Greenfingers negotiated peace once more with patience to understand one another’s races. While peace was finally made, the grudge between the Floran’s and Hylotl have been ever present for the last six-hundred years. Hylotl view Florans as savage invaders, whilst the Florans view Hylotl as pathetic, weak fishpeople.
Both races are a part of The Protectorate by 2583, however, as overwhelming numbers of tribes join The Protectorate. This was agreed upon by the new Grand Protector at the time, Maya Shlykov, as she believed that Florans would make an excellent addition to the Protectorate Military. While many tribes still exist outside the Terrene Protectorate until this day, Florans are a common sight in the Modern Galaxy.

It is a common sight to see Florans mix in modern history. For example, a single Floran Fleet attempted to destroy the USCM in the second Protectorate-USCM war (3076-3079) simply because the Florans believed they could destroy such “weak squishes.” When Novakids first came to Earth and joined the Protectorate, it was recorded that one Novakid fell in love with a Floran upon first seeing them, becoming the first Novakid-Floran couple in the Galaxy (they married on Earth in 2775, an odd celebration that shook most of the Galaxy), making it easier for most Novakids to remember the event and, thus, remember the Protectorate as a whole.
Seeing a Floran is now a common sight in the Galaxy, as they have spread throughout the stars once more, as they did long ago in forgotten ages.
