~Plasma Blades~![]() ![]() ![]() -Any In-Game Plasma Blade must have an Approved Application- Plasma Blades, also known as “Lightsabers” and “Laser-swords” are powerful melee weapons found throughout the Galaxy. Banned in many Empires and despite the difficulty wielding them, Plasma Blades are considered one of the most powerful weapons in the Galaxy. - - - - - - Design: (by BlackRose) A Plasma Blade is exactly what the name suggests, a sword of pure plasma. The hilt, powered by industrial-level solarium, produces an incredibly powerful magnetic field in a set area, causing gasses in that area to either displace, or to ionise and become plasma. The plasma is made up of highly energised positive ions of the gas, alongside negatively charged electrons. This is only achieved by introducing high amounts of energy to the atoms in the magnetic field, allowing the outer electrons to release themselves from their sub-atomic bonds. The colour of the plasma depends on the gas being ionised, with argon being purple, neon being a bright orange, and so forth. The plasma, being made up of ions and electrons is actually semi-conductive, and such, can be given and electrical charge. However, this also means that the plasma is affected by magnets and such, which is a heavy counter against them. Plasma cannot hold an electric charge, however, so it cannot be used as temporary batteries. Overall, the plasma seen here is quite akin to the plasma seen in lightning, a bolt of high-energy matter controlled within an electromagnetic field. Of course, minus the electric current. Plasma Blades can only be on for so long, and wielded even less with physical limitations. Firstly, even with the most expensive of industrial solarium batteries, a blade can only last two hours before a battery needing replacing, less if the blade had been used prior. Secondly, when holding a blade, the grip would slowly become extremely heat, starting from a mere heat tingling until, after twenty minutes, their hand is engulfed in overwhelming pain that no man could withstand. For this reason, Plasma Blades are not realistically used for long-term battle. Of course, a blade could be turned on and off constantly, only turned on when needed; but such an act would drain its battery faster. Interaction with weapons: Laser: If a laser was to somehow hit a plasma blade, the electrons in the blade cause the protons in the laser to scatter, almost completely destroying the laser beam, while 10% of it would deflect back in some way, a far reduced in power laser, while the rest dissipates. Bullet or Blade: If a bullet, or another physical object would hit the blade, they will simply pass through the shielding, causing little to no damage to the blade, UNLESS the blade is made of steel, in which case, the steel blade is affected by magnetism… without tons of force, will never touch the plasma in the blade. However, the plasma blade user will be pushed back as well, as a reaction, pushing them away from harms way also. Objects that pass through the shield enter the plasma, most likely burning in most scenario's, having a small chance of burning the user's hand with the wastage. - - - - - - History: The Plasma Blade was created by Ryan Cojlog in 2615 after many years of personal experiment. Ryan was more famous for his grand creation of pixel currency- though a grand inventor as he was, the first working prototype of a “Lightsaber” was finally working in 2615, despite experiments starting as early back as 2606. A large fan of Star Wars, Coj wished to create a very real weapon from fiction. His wish became reality through hard work, although much alike the films, he lost his hand when his first prototype burnt it off from malfunction and overheating. While he was its inventor, proving that plasma can be kept within a forcefield and turned on and off at will, Ryan did not attempt to create a working version after he lost his hand. Instead, he published his works through The Curators… and despite being banned by The Protectorate promptly after it’s creation, it did not stop companies developing working Plasma Blades by 2650. Plasma Blades became popular in media for a time- as heroes and villains would wield them in films and shows. They were, however, wrongly referred to as “Laser-Swords” by popular television and thus were named so in casual conversation. If not, they were also referred to as “Lightsabers,” but not in television due to copyright infringement to Disney. They were, however, a very real threat- with their threat becoming reality in several Protectorate Military encounters leading up to the 3000’s and well after it. A large fear during the Second Protectorate-USCM War in media coverage was that the USCM was producing Plasma Blades after discovering them. A fear that should have been laid to rest, since the USCM banned Solarium Blades shortly after founding their Empire when encountering Raiders with said blades, though Protectorate propaganda was stronger than study into adversaries law. Famously, Plasma Blades have become more common since 3380 after Earth’s Destruction due to Solarium Blades being wielded by trained members of the Occasus Cult. Their leader, Asra Nox, fought with a Katana-version of a Plasma Blade- a marvel of engineering. Whilst still banned in Protectorate and USCM Space, they have become a commodity as a trophy in said spaces if safely deactivated, otherwise illegal for service in defeating the Occasus Cult. In Lawless Space, however, they are still around, despite being quite rare… and stupidly expensive when found. Edited by Wake, Oct 22 2017, 12:33 AM.
