I am pro-welfare, but I feel like if we allow those people on welfare to buy whatever they like, sooner or later, they will get sick again from all that junk food, and then we'll have to spend even more money on them. Forcing them to only buy nutritional food sounds like a good idea to me, but I also don't want to infringe on the private lives of citizens. Thoughts?

I'm not sure how forcing them to buy only nutritional food should be enforced. Plus, I value autonomy and personal responsibility.

I agree in theory, but I'm not sure how it would be enforced. After all, everybody has different dietary requirements.

At most, I'd exclude the most blatant junk food items.

But are there any dietary requirements requiring you to eat junk food?

Judging from his post, he probably assumed it is universally unrequired food.

Rent, water bills, electricity bills, wifi? All these things are necessary that welfare can cover its not only just food stamps there are benefits to loads of different things.

I know, but forcing people on welfare to only buy nutritional foods can be seen as beneficial. If we allow them to buy junk food, they will simply get more unhealthy and rely on welfare even more.

How about actually addressing the problems that causes the poverty which makes people to turn to welfare?

Not only that no one on welfare just buys junk food. They are obviously meeting a dietry requirement which sustains them.

They wouldn’t. Food stamps are meant to help the poor, not help the rich get more rich.
