I know there's many other forms of hate towards a nationality such as against the Brits, the Japanese, and so on but this one is pretty much the most common to occur in the minds of many. This can be about hating on Americans or the US itself in a political sense or, its humanity. Although, much more negative views for it and its people usually come from Russia and most definitely the Arab World. I ask you though... is it right to think this way, even in this day and age? Even in regards to its media also? Discuss. |

Those of the sane USA harbor no hate for Brits or Japanese or muslims. The hate is generated by self serving media and politicians. Without hate none of the idiots watching fox liars and hate radio would buy guns to fight the most powerful military ever conceived on the face of the earth in the holy war hose idiots are told to prepare to fight. trump and his mental midget peanut gallery of followers are driven by hate not facts. |

Anti Americanism is inherently short sighted and misguided but you cannot say it isn't to some extent unjustified. The resentment of the Americanisation of everything from culture to media, art and history is all encompassing and the American Imperialism and corporate precesence is constant and unprecidented. Everyone, regardless of whether their government is allied or against the American state harbors some resentment. The nuance however that the American people and the state and corporate apparatus are two seperate and conflicting entities. The American people are just as manipulated and crushed by the American leaders as the world is and the people no matter how confused should not be put into the same cross fire. |

It seems like Anti-Americanism falls in two camps: The first camp is what I call "Anti-Republicanism" (popular in Europe) where you have all the typical Republican-voter stereotypes on Americans. They are fat, love guns, are very patriotic, very religious, poorly educated and so on. Most of the stereotypes many Americans have about people from the South are how much of Europe views Americans in general. The other is just plain hate of the West (popular in most Arab countries). Basically, the West is seen as too powerful and too decadent. |

The first one irritates me as I try to stay more towards the left of a political spectrum. I watched a video where British people imitated Americans and all their impressions were either valley girls or Southerners. |

It does apply, its just Americans have greater reach due to how far their cultural imperialism stretches. Thats very reductionist as they all overlap and all have different causes. Edited by Xanny, Mar 21 2018, 04:21 AM.

Anti-Americanism refers to those who believe that America is pure evil, not to those who would probably destroy it out of incompetence.

I know of Europeans who have said the US is one of the most authoritatarian countries, almost like a dictatorship. The Americans call those countries “socialist.” |

Well, considering that "socialist" often means "more fiscally liberal than what I'd consider to be an ideal economy" (as this is seen as the "default" or "center" position"), this statement is not necessarily wrong. |

I wouldn't say that. The majority of people here in the UK resent and dislike America not because it is evil but because most see it as a society stupidity, arrogance and incompetance. |

Weirdly enough, a lot of Americans here consider the UK their closest ally. (excluding Canada, of course) |

The people of the UK also considers America its closest ally but that does not mean a thing as the government and people are (obviously) seperate entities (the British resent the American government a lot more than they do the people especially with Trump in power). A saw a good deal of this in South Korea among locals and the expat teachers there. Anyway, a lot of it is projection - kind of like how it is with white supremacists/alt-right. Anyway, though, some is justified cause American culture can be overwhelming and the US is bossy - and I know all about self-righteous people (from my own family). |

Well now what forms of anti-Americanism are we talking about? There are so many things you could point at as anti-American, from negative stereotypes to calling the USA the "Great Satan." Personally I think people have a right to their opinion. I don't have to like the USA if I'm an American, and neither should all the world need to like the USA. Therefore anti-Americanism is fine as long as it isn't all about spreading utter BS and then being a terrorist. |

It can be anything but these days, people would point the finger at its media. In another forum I'm on, I saw a poll that asked for people's opinion of the US (which I think would be interested to set up here) and some shed of anti-Americanism had been expressed there. Although most of them were indifferent about it. |

Those that are so proud of their country, they are free to gloat about it, and say it's "the best"? One certain forum I knew of reeked of that by the way. |
