Exit polls have consistently shown that younger voters vote for the more liberal candidate while older folks vote for the more conservative candidate. This has been the trend for quite a while now, for at least the past three decades. So it is pretty clear people, as they age, become more conservative. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/mr-personality/201410/why-are-older-people-more-conservative http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/05/poor-people-often-dont-survive-to-become-seniors-who-vote.html If we were to break down exit polls by age groups, generally the older groups vote Republican more often than Democrat, while the younger groups vote Democrat more often. Considering NGC and Dion are both within the Silent Generation, which is considered to be the most conservative age group, is there a reason why you two have continued to remain centrist/liberal? I know Dion identifies as "Eisenhower Republican" but nowadays Eisenhower would be considered a centrist. Why have you not stuck with the norm, and rather stray away from the majority? |

My parents were also Eisenhower Republicans who also detested Richard Nixon. They went with Kennedy in 1960 and, to their regret, Johnson in ‘64. Both parents were social liberals; my father to the point of putting his job on the line by hiring the first black JC Penney store manager. His boss, an unreconstructed racist named King Karlas Knight, ordered him not to do so, but the black candidate was the most qualified and my father hired him. During my time on this planet I have watched the conservatives fight against every move to extend rights to a more inclusive group... voting rights, civil rights, marital rights, allowing a woman to make decisions about her own body. All were, and are, opposed by the disgusting and incestuous marriage of right wing politics and religion. As an agnostic atheist I am not interested in what the fundamentalist evangelicals have to say, nor do I wish to see them controlling the political process. They are a death cult eagerly anticipating Armageddon and couldn’t care less about the world as it is. I will answer your question with the words of Martin Luther (how about that for a twist!?). “Here stand I, I can do no other.” The party of the Eisenhower and Rockefeller Republicans no longer exists. Not supporting what it has morphed into is the only possible option. |

Interesting that the racist's initials is KKK. Some of the more notable Rockefeller Republicans would be Nelson Rockefeller, Gerald Ford (but not Nixon), John B Anderson, and Colin Powell. |

The initials were not accidental. Shortly after the hiring, King Karlas was kicked upstairs and my father got his job. But he was not an outlier. AT&T was sued for racial discrimination back in the early 70’s and signed the Implied Consent Decree. It basically said “we did not discriminate, but we promise not to do it again.” I’ve voted for Rockefeller Republicans, hell, I was thinking about voting for McCain until he accepted the Bimbo from the North as his VP selection. |

John McCain seems like a good person, personality wise. I disagree with too many policies of his though. I wouldn't mind him too much if he became president, although his VP choice wasn't exactly the best. McCain was facing off against a charismatic African American with good oral skills that knew how to bring people together. McCain could never match Obama's oral skills, and Palin wasn't exactly making things better. I've heard her speak before, and it's amazing how someone can speak for so long about utterly nothing. So what was it like witnessing the Republican landslide victories of 1972 and 1984? Edited by Soopairik, Jun 6 2018, 12:31 PM.

Painful. The lesson is don’t run a weak candidate against a strong incumbent. At least not a candidate with a ast name starts with an M. Now, ask how I felt on August 9, 1974. Edited by Ngc1514, Jun 6 2018, 03:26 PM.

Pretty sure you were happy Nixon resigned? Followed by unhappiness after Ford’s pardon? |

Disappointment, but not unhappiness. I don’t think it would have been good for the nation to see Nixon perp walked in handcuffs on his way to jail. Ford prevented that while insuring he would never be elected president in 1976. I was happy that Nixon was gone and disgraced. That was enough for me. |

Actually, it was actually quite possible Ford could've been re-elected in 1976, considering he got 48% of the votes, only 2% less than Carter. More than half the states were won by a margin of less than 10%, so Ford could have easily flipped a few states in his favor and win the Electoral College. However, I would've personally preferred Carter over Ford simply because I like Carter's policies more, especially his handling of the foreign policy. I do think Carter could have handled the Iran hostage crisis better though. |

i WAS A LIFELONG rEPUBLICAN. bRAIN DEAD REAGAN WAS ELECTED AND i CHANGED PARTIES. hE AND PLAYED TOO MUCH FOOTBALL WITHOUT A HELMET KEMP concocted te rape of the US economy via supply side economics. I am not liberal I am very middle road. I am an Eisenhower Republican, abhorrent of the fascist movement and racist bigotry now flushing in my country. On congress the racism is blatant and either the contributors are oblivious to what racism is or in complete denial of their racist tones. I voted for bush the greater and was extremely disappointed he followed the koch brothers john birch society and reagan model of destruction of the US economy. The racist fascist dimwit liar now occupying our house is an embarrassment to our country and all those men and women that died for our freedom and way of life. pence is no better he is a religious nut. Government has no business getting between medical professionals and patients. Religion should be beaten back to churches no religion ever should be involved in my government. You've told me before the last time you voted for a Republican for a presidential election was in 2000. |
