Should cigarettes be made illegal? Yeah, I get it. They make a lot of dough every year. But they also cause a lot of harm. And it's not victimless, because second hand smoking. Should we ban cigarettes entirely considering the amount of damage they cause, or just continue to allow them to be sold? I know many areas now have heavy regulations handling the sale of such products, but I'm asking - should there be a complete ban of the product?

That won't work. If banning does not work on marihuana , why should it work on cigarettes?

Here in Scotland, the selling of cigarettes is now done differently since a while ago, in where packs of them are hidden behind small doors probably to deter anybody from seeing them, especially for those addicted to them or had an addiction. Banning them outright would cause a lot of problems even though we hate them but as you said, the government makes too much money on tobacco.

It's a vicious circle...
Fight, in this world of aggression.
Fight, in this world of deceit.
Fight, in this war of oppression.
Fight, let the killing proceed.

I think we should keep it how it's done in my country- taxed, discouraged, but not banned.

I agree: discourage it and tax it, but banning it is unlikely to work IMO.

The last two posters have the most practical approach, in effect already of course.

As someone who has struggled as a smoker for a good chunk of my teenage years and early adult life I agree with all who have said, don’t ban it, but tax it to the point it’s nearly unaffordable for most to smoke heavily.

Apparently cigarettes are more addictive than Heroin. Can you imagine the mayhem of an outright ban?

Plus studies have shown the vast majority of people who currently smoke don’t want to. From my personal experience, you want to quit so bad, but something is stopping you. You lapse after quitting. It’s tough and like any addiction you never really kick it, just kind of learn to manage it.

It’s been years for me now, but the right thing will trigger me still. Then I’ll crave.
Advice to anyone who has never smoked. Don’t.

I never smoked at all. By the time I was a kid, there were warnings about the dangers of cigarettes (and drugs) so I never touched them.
