Sitting on the dark throne in the highest chamber of Barad-dûr, Sauron pondered as to his strategy to eliminate the threat of Ithilien's hiding Gondor's rangers inside. The problem persisted as he lost many troops who passed thither, daily.

The Dark Lord remembered Glaurung, Father of Dragons. The Fires of Anfauglith... He thought to himself, that if he could bring a massive amount of flammable substances from all ends of his land, he could set fire to the forests of Ithilien with the fiery power of Orodruin.

But the problem would be, how to get the firepower over that much land. Fell beasts could possibly bring over containers in waves, but nothing can hold the unstable liquid fire of Mount Doom...

Sauron stood up, slowly, and gracefully glided to the Window of the Eye and looked out to the Mountain of Fire. He knew that it would be the key to the Ithilien problem.
